Abstract

A standard rectangular shaped low level toilet cistern is designed to have an outside corner recess - which space contains a height adjustable urinal, in modular unit with it. The urinal is totally enclosed within the volume area of the cistern. The urinal bowl is accessed by a handle / finger pull situated at the top corner side of the cistern - allowing the urinal bowl to be moved quickly outward and upward to an optimum position. The urinal bowl will remain at any chosen height - without external support. When the bowl is placed back in the "closed" position — a push down button [which opens a water valve] - may be activated to release a spray of water into the bowl. This water valve is sited directly over the urinal bowl and could also be a non-concussive type releasing a predetermined quantity of water to rinse out the bowl.

Description

LOO2
The invention relates to an adjustable height urinal for male use.
Adjustable height urinals are known - for example WO 95/27105 discloses a urinal which is pivotally mounted to a water closet.
The purpose of the present invention is to help prevent splashing and to improve hygiene in the domestic bathroom.
To overcome this problem the invention proposes a height adjustable urinal which is conveniently placed and easily accessed from a position - within the volume area of a low level toilet water cistern.
The advantages of this invention are:-
1. The elimination of urinary splashing around the toilet.
2. The ability to urinate noiselessly in a confined area.
3. The introduction of an effortlessly quick and "user friendly" system of urination.
INCORPORATED BY REFERENCE (RULE 20.6) The [modified] toilet cistern would be a part of a "back to the wall" toilet pan base.
The rectangular shaped toilet cistern is so designed, with an outside corner recess - which would be of the exact size and shape of the urinal bowl and its support.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying three pages of drawings -
Figl . - Showing the bowl assembly - positioned out of the said recess - ready to be raised to the optimum height for use.
Fig2. - Showing two possible positions for a recess in a toilet cistern that would contain a toilet bowl assembly.
Figs3.4.5. - Showing details of the operation of the inner bowl as it moves telescopically within the outer sleeve.
Figs6.7. - Showing details of the operation of the sleeve base - making contact with the restricting box.
For the purpose of explanation of the present invention the urinal bowl 2 is shown to be positioned on the left corner side Ia of the cistern. Fig 2.
A lid / flap / door 1 - of similar ceramic material as the walls of the cistern - would cover the recess 6 containing the urinal bowl. Fig 1
The flap or door 1 covering the recess for the urinal bowl is hinged - on a horizontal axis
- at its base 7.
The top of the door 1 pivots out as it is pulled out of the recess. 6
A finger "pull" 5 [of similar material to that of the cistern] is fixed to the left side of the bowl.
The said finger pull is accessed from the side of the cistern.
The finger pull is used - firstly to move the bowl assembly out from the recess - and secondly to raise the bowl to an optimum position.
The urinal bowl support 3 is held in an outer "sleeve" 4 in position behind the door.l
The sleeve 4 is an integral part of the door.
The bowl support 3 fits inside the sleeve 4 - the bowl can be raised or lowered telescopically by sliding up or down within the outer sleeve. 4
The urinal bowl 2 has an upward travel of approximately 300mm from its base position.
The inner bowl assembly 3 has a pair of wheels 9 fitted to its base. Figs 3.4.
The said wheels are held in close contact with the inner walls of the outer sleeve by means of springs. 10
INCORPORATED BY REFERENCE (RULE 20.6) The bowl will stay in position at any chosen height - held by the tension of the said sprung wheels.
The outside lower end of the outer part 4 is fitted with a pair of spring loaded balls.11
Figs 3.5.6.7.
As the bowl assembly is pulled outwards - the base end of the sleeve moves inwards and up so that the balls come into contact with the inside walls of an open three sided box.12
Figs 6.7.
The two inside walls of said box have a ribbed rough surface 13 — effectively gripping the sprung balls.
The walls of the box 12 are splayed outward two or three degrees. Fig 7c
The total bowl assembly - [Door 1, bowl 2, inner support 3, and outer sleeve 4] can be held in horizontal position at any angle by the pressure on the sprung balls.
The effect of the ribbed surface and the narrowing walls of the box 12 increase the tension on the balls - taking up the extra gravitational weight of the bowl assembly as it pivots out to a lower position.
The bowl can be flushed out - by a spray of water through a shower head 14 that sits directly over the top area of the said bowl when the bowl is in its recess. Fig 6
A push valve 8 inset in the cistern top, releases a water spray - from the mains supply - for as long as finger pressure is applied. Fig6
A non-concussive valve delivering a fixed quantity of water could also be used.
The non-concussive valve could also be operated automatically by a switch - triggered by the bowl assembly - as it is pushed back into its position in the cistern.
The valve 8 is only operable when the bowl assembly is in the closed position. Fig6
The waste exits the bowl through a 30mm dia rigid tube 15 extending through the inside of bowl support 3.
A 30mm flexible tube 16 is fitted between the lower ends of bowl support 3 - through sleeve 4 down to the 100mm waste pipe which connects with the toilet bowl outlet. The flexible pipe 16 is sufficiently long to allow the bowl assembly to be fully extended. A P-trap is sited at the waste pipe connection.
Positioning the urinal bowl to either the left side Ia of the cistern - or on the right side Ib of the cistern would be the most practical. Fig2

Claims

CLAIMS.
Claim 1.For a height adjustable urinal, being an integral part of a domestic toilet, which will allow a splash free - and thus more hygienic method of urination.
Claim 2. For a height adjustable urinal - which, when not in use - "in its retracted position" - is totally enclosed within the volume area of a low level toilet cistern, atop a back to the wall toilet base.
Claim3. For a height adjustable urinal to have the said "retracted position" within a recess - on the left front side, or the right front side of the said toilet cistern, which, when in its closed [retracted] position, the said urinal forms modular unit with the said cistern.
Claim 4. For a height adjustable urinal - as of Claim 3 - which is hinged on a horizontal axis at the base of the said cistern.
Claim5. For a height adjustable urinal - as of Claim 3 - which can be pulled or pivoted out on said hinge from the said cistern — to any chosen angle or height — within its limits.
Claimό. For a height adjustable urinal - as of Claim 3 - which when pivoted out from said cistern - exposes the urinal bowl - which can then be moved vertically, telescopically to any chosen height — within its limits.
Claim7. For a height adjustable urinal — as of Claim 3 — which, when pivoted out from its axis, the bowl assembly will remain stable at any chosen angle or distance from the cistern - held in position by means of a device fitted to the base of the hinged urinal.
Claimδ. For a height adjustable as of Claim 3 — which, when the inner bowl is raised vertically - telescopically - the bowl assembly will remain stable at any chosen height - held in position by means of a device fitted to the base of the said bowl.
