Description
Title: Composition which is suitable to be applied as massage oil, and method and tool for preparing the composition for use
The present invention relates to a composition which is suitable to be applied as massage oil, which will hereinafter be referred to as massage oil composition. Such a composition is well- known, and is used on the skin of a person who is subjected to massage in order to smooth the massage process and prevent- the skin from getting irritated by the intensive contact to the hands of a person performing the massage or a massage tool.
It is known to have a massage oil composition which comes in a bottle, wherein during a massage process, small quantities of the composition are poured from the bottle. As it is quite difficult for a user to dose the composition in this way, wherein there is a risk of an uncontrolled flow of oil, there is a need for a new massage oil composition which allows for a better way of applying the composition to skin. According to the present invention, this need is fulfilled by a massage oil composition comprising both oil and a heat-resistant antioxidant. The massage oil composition is suitable to be heated to a temperature at which its viscosity may be low enough for it to be sprayable, without deterioration of the oil. The antioxidant may be tocopherylacetate, as this is an antioxidant which is heat-resistant and which appears to yield good results. It has been found that when the massage oil composition containing the tocopherylacetate is heated to a relatively high temperature of 600C or even 7O0C, the composition remains very well suitable to be used as a massage oil. According to a preferred option, the oil of the composition is a mixture of almond oil and jojoba oil. That does not alter the fact that other types of oil may be used in the composition. When the almond oil and the jojoba oil as mentioned are used, it appears to be advantageous if the content of the almond oil is 90%, the content of the jojoba oil is 9,5%, and the content of the antioxidant is
0,5%. However, it should be understood that within the scope of the present invention, other contents are conceivable as well.
The present invention further relates to a method for preparing the composition as described in the foregoing, i.e. the composition comprising oil and a heat-resistant antioxidant, for use. This method comprises the steps of providing a spraying device having a container for containing a liquid and means for spraying the liquid from the container, filling the container of the spraying device with a quantity of the composition, and heating the composition in the container to a temperature at which the composition is sprayable. Hence, preparing the composition for use is a process with only a few steps, which can be carried out easily.
The temperature to which the composition is heated may be in any suitable range, wherein it is noted that the temperature should be such that the massage oil composition is sprayable at the one hand and cannot burn the skin when being sprayed on the skin on the other hand. In view of this, the temperature may be in a range of
35°C to 70cC, or in a subrange of relatively high temperatures such as temperatures in a range of 50 °C to 600C, or in a subrange of relatively low temperatures such as temperatures in a range of 350C to 45°C. It is very convenient if during the preparation process of the massage oil composition, a heating apparatus having a space for receiving the spraying device and means for generating heat in the space is used, as in that case, heating the composition in the container of the spraying device is realized in a relatively simple manner, namely by placing the spraying device in the space of the heating apparatus, and activating the heat generating means of the heating apparatus.
As a result of the preparation process of the massage oil composition according to the present invention, a spraying device having a container filled with the composition in a sprayable condition is obtained. Thus, applying the composition to skin only requires aiming the spraying means of the spraying device at the skin and activating the spraying means to perform a spraying action. In general, applying a liquid to a surface by spraying the liquid is much more convenient than pouring the liquid from a bottle, as the liquid is already spread over the surface in tiny droplets once the spraying action has been performed, while pouring the liquid from a bottle requires a subsequent action of spreading the liquid over the surface, which needs to be performed fast in case the surface is not
perfectly planar and horizontal, as is the case with skin, in order to prevent an uncontrolled flow of liquid.
The present invention further relates to a tool for preparing the composition as described in the foregoing, i.e. the composition comprising oil and a heat-resistant antioxidant, for use. This tool comprises a spraying device having a container for containing a liquid and means for spraying the liquid from the container, and a heating apparatus having a space for receiving the spraying device and means for generating heat in the space, and is therefore suitable to be used in the preparation method as described in the foregoing. In a practical embodiment, the heating apparatus has means for controlling the temperature to be realized in the space of the heating apparatus, which are adapted to set a temperature which is in a range of 350C to 700C. In this way, the massage oil composition may be put to any desired temperature within a useful range. According to one option existing within the scope of the present invention, th'e controlling means may be adapted to set a relatively high temperature such as a temperature which is in a range of 50°C to 6O0C, whereas it is also possible for the controlling means to be adapted to set a relatively low temperature such as a temperature which is in a range of 35 °C to 45 °C.
In a practical embodiment, the spraying device comprises a trigger for activating its spraying means, in a manner known per se from plant sprays, for example, wherein a tube extending in the container is provided, and the spraying means are activated to suck the massage oil composition from the container through the tube and forcefully emit the composition through one or more nozzle holes when the trigger is pulled. The same effect can also be obtained in other ways. For example, the spraying device may comprise a depressable button instead of a trigger. In this respect, it is noted that the nozzle hole(s) may be arranged in the button, as known from perfume sprays .
The present invention will be explained in more detail on the basis of the following description of a preferred embodiment of the heating apparatus and preferred embodiments of the spraying device with reference to the drawing, in which equal reference signs indicate equal or similar components, and in which: figure 1 diagrammaticalIy shows a perspective view of two components of a tool for preparing a massage oil composition according to the
present invention, namely a heating apparatus and a spraying device placed therein; figure 2 diagrammatically shows a perspective view of the spraying device; and figure 3 diagrammatically shows a perspective view of an alternative embodiment of the spraying device.
Figure 1 shows a heating apparatus 1 which is part of a tool 2 for preparing a massage oil composition according to the present invention. The heating apparatus 1 has a heating space 3 for receiving and accommodating a device 4 to be heated by the apparatus 1. According to the present invention, this device 4 is a spraying device 4 comprising a container 5 which is suitable for containing a massage oil composition, and a spraying head 6 which has a nozzle hole 7 for emitting the composition and means 8 for initiating a spraying action. In the embodiment of the spraying device 4 which is shown in figure 1, and which is more clearly shown in figure 2, the means 8 as mentioned comprise a trigger 9, and in the alternative embodiment of the spraying device 4 which is shown in figure 3, the means 8 as mentioned comprise a depressable button 10.
In fact, the first embodiment of the spraying device 4 as shown in figures 1 and 2 resembles a commonly known plant- spray, and has similar spraying facilities. Hence, when the trigger 9 is pulled, the spraying facilities are activated such as to suck massage oil composition from the container 5 and to cause the composition to be forcefully emitted from the spraying device 4 through the nozzle hole 7 of the spraying head 6. Furthermore, the second embodiment of the spraying device 4 as shown in figure 3 resembles a commonly known perfume spray, and has the same spraying facilities. Hence, when the button 10 is depressed, the same effect is obtained as has been described with respect to pulling the trigger 9 of the first embodiment of the spraying device 4.
It is noted that the spraying head 6 is a removable component of the spraying device 4, wherein a connection of the spraying head 6 to the container 5 is detachable. In the shown embodiments of the spraying device 4, the connection between the spraying head 6 and the container 5 is a threaded connection. Within the scope of the present invention, other suitable types as possible as well. In any case, on the basis of the fact that the spraying head 6 may be removed from the container 5, it is possible for a user to fill the
container 5 with the massage oil composition. The container 5 may have any suitable content, for example, a content of 100 ml.
According to the present invention, the massage oil composition which is used in the tool 2 having the heating apparatus 1 and the spraying device 4 comprises oil and a heat-resistant antioxidant. As an advantageous consequence, the massage oil composition may be heated such as to be sprayable. For the purpose of heating a quantity of massage oil composition that is present inside the container 5 of the spraying device 4, the heating apparatus 1 is used, wherein the spraying device 4 is put in place in the heating space 3 of the apparatus 1, as illustrated by figure 1.
The heating apparatus 1 has a hingably arranged lid 11 for opening and closing the heating space 3. This lid 11 may be transparent or comprise a transparent window (not shown) in order to allow a user to see through the lid 11 whether a spraying device 4 is located in the heating space 3, or not. For the purpose of generating heat in the heating space 3, the heating apparatus 1 comprises suitable heating means (not shown) , which are preferably electric heating means, wherein a switch 12 is provided for enabling a user to activate and deactivate these means. The heating means may comprise one or more elements which are disposed at a suitable position in the heating space 3. It is preferred if the at least one heating element is not disposed at the top of the heating space 3, but only at a position for heating the container 5 of the spraying device 4, so that a user is capable of taking hold of the spraying head 6 of the spraying device 4 without a risk of burning his/her hand when the spraying device 4 has been subjected to a heating process in the heating apparatus 1. Furthermore, the heating apparatus 1 may comprise controlling means (not shown) for controlling the operation of the heating means, and for guaranteeing that a predetermined temperature is realized in the heating space 3. A practical range of temperatures is a range of 350C to 70°C.
A process of preparing a quantity of massage oil composition by means of the tool 2 according to the present invention is performed as will be described in the following, wherein it is assumed that initially, the spraying device 4 is in an assembled state, while the container 5 is empty, that the heating means of the heating apparatus 1 are in a deactivated condition, that the lid 11 of the heating apparatus 1 is in a closed position, and that an power plug
13 of the heating apparatus 1 is connected to a suitable power source (not shown) .
The preparation process comprises a step of filling the spraying device 4. To this end, a user removes the spraying head 6 from the container 5 by unscrewing the spraying head 6 from the container 5. Subsequently, the user fills the container 5 with massage oil composition, for example, by pouring the composition from a bottle (not shown) . When the container 5 is filled to a desired extent, the user screws the spraying head 6 back on the container 5 again. At that point, the spraying device 4 is ready to be positioned in the heating apparatus 1, so that the massage oil composition may be put to a right temperature, i.e. a temperature such as to be sprayable .
When the user is ready to have the massage oil composition heated, the user places the spraying device 4 having the filled container 5 in the heating space 3 of the heating apparatus 1. To this end, the user puts the lid 11 to an opened position, puts the spraying device 4 in place in the heating space 3, and puts the lid 11 to a closed position in order to prevent unnecessary heat loss from the space 3. The user activates the heating means of the heating apparatus 1 by operating the switch 12. Under the influence of heat generated by the heating means, the temperature prevailing inside the heating space 3 increases, so that the container 5 of the spraying device 4 and its content are heated. In the process, the temperature is controlled by the controlling means.
When the massage oil composition is at a temperature at which it is sprayable, the user may remove the spraying device 4 from the heating apparatus 1 by opening the lid 11 and taking the spraying device 4 out of the heating space 3. Furthermore, the user terminates the heating process by operating the switch 12 again. It is noted that the heating apparatus 1 may be equipped with means for indicating to the user that the right temperature has been reached, wherein these means may comprise a light, a buzzer, or any other suitable indicating means. Once the preparation process has finished, the spraying device 4 is ready to be used for the purpose of applying massage oil composition to skin. ,To this end, the user simply aims the spraying head 6 at the skin to be covered with massage oil composition, in such a way that it is realized that composition emitted by the nozzle hole 7 of the spraying head 6 reaches the skin. When the user
activates the spraying facilities of the spraying device 4, a spray of the massage oil composition is realized. Applying a massage oil composition to skin by spraying the composition is very convenient to the user, and it is an important achievement of the present invention that a composition which may be put in a sprayable condition, a device 4 adapted to contain the composition and perform the necessary spraying action, and an apparatus 1 for heating the composition when being present in a container 5 of the device 4 are provided in the way as described.
It will be clear to a person skilled in the art that the scope of the present invention is not limited to the examples discussed above, but that various amendments and modifications thereof are possible without deviating from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
The heating apparatus 1 as shown in figure 1 is adapted to receive and accommodate a single spraying device 4. However, it is also possible for the heating apparatus 1 to have a heating space 3 which is large enough for receiving and accommodating more than one spraying device 4. Also, the heating apparatus 1 may have a plurality of heating spaces 3.
The present invention may be summarized as follows. A massage oil composition comprises oil and a heat-resistant antioxidant, as a consequence of which the composition may be put to a sprayable condition under the influence of heat, without deterioration of the oil. A tool 2 for preparing the massage oil composition comprises a spraying device 4 having a container 5 for containing a liquid and means 6, 7 for spraying the liquid from the container, and a heating apparatus 1 having a space 3 for receiving the spraying device 4 and means for generating heat in the space 3.
When a user wants to apply massage oil composition to skin, he/she fills the container 5 of the spraying device 4 with a quantity of the composition, places the spraying device 4 inside the heating apparatus 1 and activates this apparatus 1 for performing its heating function. When the massage oil composition has reached a set temperature, the composition is ready to be sprayed from the spraying device 4. Applying the massage oil composition simply involves aiming the spraying means 6, 7 of the spraying device 4 at skin to be covered with the composition and activating the spraying
means 6, 7 such as to emit the composition, wherein a spray of the composition is realized.
