Abstract

The invention relates to a method for operating a gas sensor (16) arranged in a measuring chamber (36). The aim of the invention is to operate economical gas sensors in a sensitive environment with greater functional security and reduced cost. Said gas sensor (16) is to be operated in a small measuring volume (14) in an alternating discontinuous manner in at least two operating modes. A base-line independent measurement can be performed by catalytical purification in one of the operating modes and/or filtering signal fractions that only change over a long period of time.
