  • This invention relates generally to a pushchair and more particularly is concerned with assembling a second seating arrangement in the pushchair by adapting part of a frame of the pushchair.
  • Pushchairs typically come in one- and two-seater arrangements. Normally pushchairs are sold pre-configured so that little can be done to increase or decrease the number of seats contained in the pushchair. Two-seater pushchairs are traditionally bulky and can be difficult to maneuver.
  • the invention attempts to address the aforementioned situation.
  • the invention provides a pushchair which includes a frame, a first seating arrangement which is supported by the frame and which faces in a first direction, and a second seating arrangement which is supported by the frame and which faces in a second direction which opposes the first direction, and wherein the second seating arrangement is higher than the first seating arrangement.
  • the frame may include first and second, spaced apart, extensible support members, which are connected to the second seating arrangement which is movable between an upright position and a reclined position by altering the length of each member.

  • the frame 12 includes first and second, spaced apart, extensible support members 34A and 34B.
  • the second seating arrangement 22 includes a U-shaped support 40 and two anchoring formations 42A and 42B. Each free end of the U-shaped support terminates in a respective clip formation 44A and 44B.
  • the anchoring formations are pivotally engaged with the U-shaped support.
  • Each elongate support terminates in a respective handle 24 at an upper end and is engaged with a wheel 26 at a lower end.
  • An upper end of the shorter support 16A is pivotally attached to the elongate support 14A and a lower end of the shorter support is engaged with a wheel 26B.

  • the extensible support members are secured to the second seating arrangement 22 using a latch, lock or the like which is strong enough to carry a predetermined maximum load which may be placed on the second seating arrangement.
  • the members 34 In the first configuration 36 the members 34 have been retracted and moved so that each member aligns substantially with an adjacent part of the frame 12. This reduces the possibility of the members being an obstruction when not in use.
  • the second seating arrangement 22 is supported by the frame 12 by securing respective free ends of the support members 34A and 34B with respective anchoring formations 42A and 42B of the second seating arrangement and by engaging clip formations 44A and 44B with a crossbar 28 of the frame.
  • Each support member 34A and 34B is detachable from the frame 12 so that the support members can be removed and stored in any suitable location such as a basket, not shown, which is situated underneath the first seating arrangement.
  • the second seating arrangement 22 is manufactured from any suitable woven material.
  • the frame 12 is manufactured from a light weight metallic or plastic material which allows the frame to support a predetermined maximum load.
  • the second seating arrangement is coated with a suitable compound, for example ScotchguardTM, which makes the seat portion easier to clean.
  • Figure 3 shows the second seating arrangement, while supported by the frame 12, from above.
  • the material used in the construction of the second seating arrangement can be suitably shaped and padded so that the safety and comfort of this arrangement are improved.
  • the second seating arrangement may include suitable straps, not shown, with which a child, not shown, in the second seating arrangement, can be securely strapped to this arrangement so that the possibility of the child falling out of the second seating arrangement is reduced.
  • Figure 4 shows the pushchair 10 from the side.
  • the second seating arrangement is positioned on the frame 12 so that the possibility of this seating arrangement obstructing the view of an occupant in the first seating arrangement is reduced.
  • the elevation of the second seating arrangement can be altered by adjusting the length of each member 34A and 34B. This makes it possible to move the seat portion between an upright position 46 and a reclined position 48.
  • the invention provides a pushchair which is adaptable so that a second seat can be incorporated into the pushchair.
  • the second seat is supported by reconfiguring a fame of the pushchair.
  • the second seat is not permanently fixed to the pushchair and is removable.
  • the second seat is manufactured from materials which are light weight and durable so that the maneuverability of the pushchair is not impaired.

Abstract

La présente invention concerne une poussette ayant un premier agencement d'assise et un second agencement d'assise qui sont soutenus par un châssis. Le premier agencement d'assise fait face à une première direction et le second agencement d'assise fait face à une seconde direction qui est opposée à la première direction. Le second agencement d'assise est plus haut que le premier agencement d'assise et peut être détaché du châssis.
