Abstract

 熱、光などに対する安定性を有し、広い温度範囲でネマチック相となり、粘度が小さく、適切な光学異方性および適切な弾性定数K33を有し、さらに、適切な負の誘電率異方性、および他の液晶性化合物との優れた相溶性を有する液晶性化合物を提供し、熱、光などに対する安定性を有し、粘度が低く、大きな光学異方性、適切な負の誘電率異方性、および適切な弾性定数K33を有し、しきい値電圧が低く、さらに、ネマチック相の上限温度(ネマチック相-等方相の相転移温度)が高く、ネマチック相の下限温度が低い上記化合物を含有する液晶組成物を提供する。ラテラル位にフッ素を有し、さらにベンゼン環上の水素がフッ素で置き換えられたフェニレンを有する特定構造を有する液晶性化合物、およびその化合物を含む液晶組成物を調製する。
