Abstract

 本発明の液晶表示装置(1)は、液晶表示パネル(3)と、バックライト(2)とを備えている。バックライト(2)は、プラズマチューブ(22)を光源としている。このバックライト(2)は、基板(21)と、この基板上に複数本のプラズマチューブ(22)を並べたアレイ構造(23)とを有しており、上記アレイ構造における基板側の面と反対側に形成される面が、液晶表示パネル(3)に光を照射する発光部(29)となっている。これにより、プラズマチューブをバックライトの光源として使用することによって、より薄型であり、かつ、表示の高精細さを維持することのできる液晶表示装置を実現する。
