Abstract

A liquid crystal panel which exhibits high contrast ratio, and a liquid crystal display including such a liquid crystal panel. The liquid crystal panel includes a first polarizer, a first optical compensation layer, a liquid crystal cell, a second optical compensation layer and a second polarizer in this order from the visible side, wherein the first and second optical compensation layers have a refractive index distribution of nx > ny > nz, and the transmission factor (T2) of the second polarizer is greater than the transmission factor (T1) of the first polarizer.
