Abstract
Les puzzles à base de polyèdre irrégulier ou semi-régulier présentent au moins deux types de faces différents. Le procédé de séparation employé pour créer les puzzles nécessite de choisir les plans bissecteurs parallèles aux faces pour exclure au moins un type de face. De préférence, le polyèdre de base présente une forme de buckminsterfullerène (ballon de football). En appliquant ce procédé de séparation à un polyèdre buckminsterfullerène, on obtient (i) un élément central avec six axes passant à travers les centres géométriques de faces pentagonales, (ii) douze éléments rotatifs pentagonaux, et (iii) trente éléments mobiles de forme tétraédrale. Les éléments mobiles sont échangeables entre groupes adjacents. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, des éléments coulissants sont superposés sur les éléments mobiles pour permettre un mouvement coulissant en plus du mouvement de décalage/rotation. Différents motifs peuvent être utilisés pour moduler le niveau de difficulté du puzzle. Le même procédé de séparation peut être utilisé sur une sphère pour obtenir un puzzle entièrement sphérique.
