Abstract

A polysaccharide treating agent which comprises an ionic liquid constituted of imidazolium cations represented by the formula (1) and (CH3O)(R3)PO2- (R3 represents hydrogen, methyl, or methoxy). The treating agent enables various polysaccharides including cellulose to dissolve therein at around room temperature. It has a low viscosity and is satisfactory in handleability as a liquid and in suitability for work treatment. (In the formula, R1 and R2 may be the same or different and each represents linear or branched C1-12 alkyl.)
