Abstract

 位相差の制御性が著しく向上し、また、位相差の波長依存性についても十分に制御することができ、かつ、液晶表示装置に採用した場合に高いレベルでの広視野角化を実現することのできる位相差フィルム、当該位相差フィルムを用いた広視野角化を実現することのできる積層偏光フィルム、および、高性能化、特に広視野角化された液晶表示装置を提供する。構造性複屈折と分子配向性複屈折の両者を同時に有する構造体を、位相差フィルムとして用いる。具体的には、平均屈折率の異なる少なくとも2種の層(11、12)を構成単位とする繰り返し多層構造(13)を含み、これら少なくとも2種の層のうち少なくとも1種の層は、分子配向性複屈折による光学的異方性を有する層である位相差フィルムとする。
