Definitions
- the present invention relates to a patient gown.
- the gown according to the present invention may advantageously be used in hospital environments and medical environments in general, where the patient needs to undergo medical examinations, treatment or surgery.
- Prior art gowns are normally made of fabric and are shaped to only leave uncovered the patient's neck and the lower and upper limbs.
- the gowns may be quickly opened and closed, at the front and back, by means of buttons, Velcro or ties, and their partial opening enables access by the medical personnel to the patient's body without the need to completely undress the patient.
- the gowns extend in length far beyond the private parts so that the private parts are always covered, even after movements made by the patient. For this reason, medication or examination of the private parts, or the insertion of a urinary catheter in the patient, requires lifting of the gown or, where possible, partial opening of the gown. In any case, access to the private parts is usually difficult, and always inconvenient.
- the catheter may lift or open the gown in an inconvenient or undesired manner, following movements made by the patient.
- the main technical aim of the present invention is to propose a patient gown which overcomes the above-mentioned shortcomings.
- FIG. 1 and 2 show, respectively, a perspective view and a front view of a gown made in accordance with the present invention
- figure 3 shows the gown of figure 2 in an open position
- FIG. 4 and 5 show a patient wearing the gown of figures 1-3, in two different situations.
- figure 1 shows the patient gown in its entirety.
- the gown 1 may advantageously be used in hospital environments and medical environments in general, where the patient needs to undergo medical examinations, treatment or surgery.
- the gown 1 is of the disposable type, preferably made from non-woven fabric.
- the gown 1 is of the washable and reusable type, made preferably of natural or synthetic fibres.
- the gown 1 is shaped to only leave uncovered the patient's neck and the lower and upper limbs. With regard to the lower limbs, the gown 1 is shaped to leave the lower limbs uncovered whilst covering fully and adequately the private parts.
- the gown 1 extends in length far beyond the private parts, with a standard length between 100 cm and 160 cm depending on the size, but its length is reduced at the central portion 2, which covers the private parts, to enable an easy and convenient access to the private parts by the medical personnel, or an easy and convenient connection of a catheter 11.
- portion 2 is a front portion, even though according to another preferred embodiment, which is not illustrated, it may be the rear portion.
- the gown 1 has a lower edge 3 which is straight with the exception of the portion 2, at which the edge 3 follows a broken line L, in particular according to three consecutive sides of a rectangle.
- the gown 1 shows, beneath the portion 2, a removal of material according to a rectangular area.
- the line L has two sections 4 and 5 which are substantially straight and vertical, which lie at a distance from each other of between 7 cm and 13 cm, preferably equal to 10 cm.
- the sections 4 and 5 have a length h of between 20 cm and 40 cm depending on the size.
- the sections 4 and 5 are joined together by a section 6 which is substantially straight and horizontal, from which leads an opening and closing element 8 to open and close the gown 1 quickly and centrally, from the edge 3 up to the neck 12 of the gown 1.
- the opening and closing element 8 is conveniently of the Velcro type and its length is between 60 and 100 cm depending on the size.
- the sections 4, 5 and 6 mark the edge of an opening or window 9 through which the medical personnel may easily and conveniently reach the patient's private parts without the need to lift the gown 1 or open the gown 1 by means of the element 8.
- a urinary catheter 11 may pass through the opening 9 terminating in a bag 13 which may be carried by the patient by hand, without this resulting in the lifting of the gown 1.
- the gown 1 includes two internal pockets 10, of which one placed near to the portion 2 and suitable for holding a small bag of medication 7 to be administered to the patient through a catheter 11.
