Abstract

A drinking vessel 10 comprises an open-topped receptacle 12 for holding a beverage such as wine and a base 14. The vessel 10 is transformable between a drinking vessel configuration wherein the drinking vessel resembles a wine glass and a beverage container configuration for holding the beverage therein during transport or storage. The receptacle 12 includes a cup portion 16 and a hollow neck portion 20 defining a filler opening 21 closable by means of a stopper 37 and through which the receptacle can be fitted. In the drinking vessel configuration the neck portion is screwed into the base 14, whereas in the beverage container configuration, the base is screwed into the cup portion to close off the top of the cup, with a seal 38 being secured to an inner side of the cup providing a fluid-tight seal to define an enclosed space within which the beverage is contained.

Claims

AMENDED CLAIMS received by the International Bureau on February 1, 2008
1. A drinking vessel including:
an open-topped receptacle for holding wine, the receptacle having a relatively large diameter open first end and a relatively small diameter second end opposite the first end, which defines a closable filler opening through which the receptacle can be filled with wine; and
a base for supporting the receptacle;
the drinking vessel being characterised in that it is transformable between a drinking vessel configuration and a beverage container configuration, the receptacle and the base having complementary first securing formations for releasably securing the base to the second end of the receptacle in the drinking vessel configuration of the drinking vessel, the receptacle and the base further having complementary second securing formations for releasably securing the base to the first end of the receptacle for closing off the first end of the receptacle in the beverage container configuration of the drinking vessel, the drinking vessel including removable secondary closure means which is located proximate the first end of the receptacle adjacent an inner side of the second securing formation and which forms a fluid- tight seal with the receptacle for closing off the receptacle so as to define an enclosed space in which the wine is contained in the beverage container configuration of the drinking vessel.
2. The drinking vessel as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first securing formations of the receptacle and the base are in the form of complementary screw thread formations.
3. The drinking vessel as claimed in claim 2, wherein the first securing formation of the receptacle is in the form of a spigot formation defining an external screw thread and the first securing formation of the base is in the form of a complementary socket defining an internal screw thread into which the spigot formation can be screwed.
4. The drinking vessel as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the second securing formations of the receptacle and of the base are in the form of complementary screw thread formations.
5. The drinking vessel as claimed in claim 4, wherein the second securing formation of the receptacle is in the form of a screw thread defined on an inner side of the receptacle adjacent the rim of the receptacle and the second securing formation of the base may be in the form of a complementary screw thread defined along a peripheral edge of the base.
6. The drinking vessel as claimed in claim 5, wherein the secondary closure means is in the form of a sheet element which is secured along a peripheral edge thereof to the receptacle.
7. The drinking vessel as claimed in claim 1 , which includes a closure for closing off said filler opening.
8. The drinking vessel as claimed in claim 7, wherein the closure for closing off said filler opening is a stopper which can be press-fitted into the filter opening thereby to form a fluid-tight closure for the filler opening.
13
9. The drinking vessel as claimed in claim 1, wherein the drinking vessel, in its drinking vessel configuration, has the form of a wine glass wherein the receptacle has a cup-shaped upper portion which defines said first end and a relatively narrower hollow neck portion which defines said filler opening and which provides the stem of the wine glass, with the base providing the base of the wine glass.
10. The drinking vessel as claimed in claim 1 , substantially as described in the specification with reference to and as illustrated in any of the accompanying drawings.
