Abstract
The present invention relates to an improved method of packaging a innerspring mattress. Various embodiments include placing the mattress in a bag, compressing the mattress and bag, sealing the bag, then rolling the mattress and bag into a cylinder shaped roll. Other embodiments include securing the rolled mattress and bag with tape, then placing into a second bag for shipment and storage. An additional embodiment discloses a method of packaging a foam encased innerspring mattress.
Claims
1. (Currently Amended) A method for packaging a rectangular shaped, innerspring mattress, comprising the following steps: a. placing an uncompressed innerspring mattress into a first packaging means, wherein the packaging means is capable of completely enclosing the mattress, and wherein the first packaging means has four discemable sides, and wherein at least one side is open; b. compressing the mattress and first packaging means; c- sealing the at least one open side of the first packaging means; and d. rolling the mattress and first packaging means into a cylinder shaped roll.
2- (Currently Amended) A method for packaging a rectangular shaped, innerspring mattress, comprising the following steps: a. placing an uncompressed innerspring mattress into a first packaging means, wherein the packaging means is capable of completely enclosing the mattress, and wherein the first packaging means has four discemable sides, and wherein at least one side is open; b. compressing the mattress and first packaging means; c. sealing the at least one open side of the first packaging means; d. folding the mattress and first packaging means; and 13
e. rolling the folded mattress and first packaging means into a cylinder shaped roll.
3. (Original) The method of claim 1 or 2, further comprising taping the cylinder shaped roll such that the cylinder shape is retained.
4. (Currently Amended) The method of claim 1 or 2, further comprising enclosing the cylinder shaped roll into a second packaging means.
5. (Currently Amended) The method of claim 1 or 2, wherein the rolling of the mattress and first packaging means into a cylinder shaped roll is done without mechanical assistance.
6. (Currently Amended) The method of claim 1 or 2, wherein the rolling of the mattress and first packaging means into a cylinder shaped roll is done with mechanical assistance.
7. (Currently Amended) The method of claim 1 or 2, wherein the compression of the mattress and first packaging means utilizes a press machine.
8. (Currently Amended) The method of claim 1 or 2, wherein the compression of the mattress and first packaging means is accomplished by creating a vacuum within the first packaging means.
9. (Currently Amended) The method of claims 1 or 2, wherein the first packaging means comprises a bag.
10. (Currently Amended) The method of claim 4, wherein the second packaging means comprises a bag.
11. (Currently Amended) The method of claims 1 or 2, wherein the first packaging means comprises a plastic bag.
12. (Currently Amended) The method of claim 4, wherein the second packaging means comprises a plastic bag.
13. (Currently Amended) The method of claims 1 or 2, wherein the first packaging enclosure means comprises a cloth bag. 14
14. (Currently Amended) The method of claim 4, wherein the second packaging means comprises a cloth bag.
15. (Currently Amended) The method of claims 1 or 2, wherein the first packaging means comprise a polyethylene bag.
16. (Currently Amended) The method of claim 4, wherein the second packaging means comprise a polyethylene bag.
17. (Original) The method of claims 1 or 2, wherein the innerspring mattress comprises pocket springs.
18. (Original) The method of claims 1 or 2, wherein the innerspring mattress comprises Bonnel springs.
19. (Original) The method of claims 1 or 2, wherein the springs are encased in foam.
20. (Original) The method of claims 1 or 2, wherein the springs are encased in at least one fabric material.
21. (Original) The method of claims 1 or 2, wherein the springs are encased in at least one fiber material.
22. (Original) The method of claims 1 or 2» wherein the springs are encased in at least one felt material.
23. (Currently Amended) The method of claims 1 or 2, wherein the springs are encased in a plastic material.
24. (Currently Amended) The method of claim 1 or 2, wherein the cylinder shaped roll is retained by placing a material around the roll that is resistant to stretching.
25. (Currently Amended) The method of claims 1 or 2, wherein the mattress comprises a rectangular shape such that it has a discernable height and width, and wherein the mattress is rolled along the width of the mattress, such that when the rolling of the mattress is complete, the length of the cylinder shaped roll is approximately the width of the mattress.
