Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a mains powered cooking appliance with direct use for preparing a cooked egg.
  • the egg is cooked within its shell to produce a range of yolk states similar to a traditional 'boiled egg'.
  • the present invention cooks an egg in a novel, accurate and interesting manor.
  • a number of halogen bulbs are positioned around an egg.
  • the distance from the bulbs to the egg is fixed in order to provide the optimum distribution of heat.
  • a single user control interface preferably situated on the upper face of the appliance allows the cooking time to be adjusted by 15 seconds increments from a minimum .of 4.5 minutes to a maximum of 7.5 minutes, thus coping with commonly available egg sizes.
  • a visual indication such as a series of LEDs indicate the remaining heating time. Each, of a possible of 12 LEDs represents a unit of time, e.g. 30 seconds.
  • the appliance is ready to be used again immediately with no maintenance or loss of performance.

Modifications may be made to the above embodiment, for example, instead of the controls for the on/off and timing being on the cover, they may be located on the base which would avoid the need for the transmitter and receiver arrangements described above.
