"SYSTEM FOR PERSONALIZED RECOMMENDATION"
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The invention refers to a system of personalized recommendation that is applied to any electronic systems based on rendering of information or services.
More specifically, the present invention refers to a system for automatic definition of user's profile based on several aspects users' preferences, proceeding with the definition of a set of filters to be used in the automatic selection of information and services of users' interest, which represent their profiles. In addition, the system and method of the invention allows an automatic recommendation to the users, in different formats and according to their profiles.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The increasing amount of information and services available in some type of electronic format demands the use of a series of tools with an ever increasing complexity for selecting information. Some systems are described in the documents WO 2004/030360, WO 2002/21335, WO 2001/45408, WO
2002/41178, US 6,064,980, JP 318375, EP 1 045318, and US 2003103233.
Some years ago, the main information sources were television and radio, with a reduced amount of open channels which are manually selected, according to the preferences of the audience.
Cable television represented a great revolution of this panorama, once the number of channels offered was multiplied, offering the users a new gamma of information possibilities. However, at the same time, the selection of this information became more complicated. The EPGs (Electronic Program Guides) were created to overcome the difficulty in choosing programs through different medias, and are tools through which the selection of information is easily made. Some EGPs are disclosed, for example, in documents WO
2004/030360, WO 2002/41178, and EP 1 045 318.
The technological progress of telecommunications enabled the rendering of a series of long distance services. The services that were rendered only in defined sites, requiring the displacement of the users, started to be available in their own homes. The increasing number of services demanded that tools like phone lists and, more recently, the service of directory help, were made available to users.
With the advent of the Internet and its fast popularization, a new world of information and services has been offered to the public. Search sites, among which the most famous is GOOGLE, became indispensable for the search of information or services desired by the user. These sites perform the search due to keywords defined by the user.
The common deficiencies to all tools for selecting information and services, in spite of its evolution, is the fact that they are restricted to one electronic system. In addition, they are passive, once they depend on the continuous action of the user and, in many cases, the depend on the knowledge of the user about the process involved in the selection.
Therefore, the invention intends to overcome the above-mentioned deficiencies, which are becoming more problematic due to digital convergence, which is quickly unifying telephony, internet and all other channels of communication.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
According to the present invention, a multivariable system of automatic profile definition takes into account, in a unified manner, several features of the user's profile, such as TV and radio shows, preferences on internet browsing, use of telephony services, places and events attended, goods shopped and profiles of contacted people.
In a second aspect, the system of the present invention is based
on filters defined by user's profile, and depending on user's profile, searches on different databases in the internet and recommends information and services of user's interest, such as TV and radio shows, events, goods, places to be visited, homepages etc, depending on the physical location and the source used by the user.
According to the system of the present invention, a best profile quality can be achieved, once the system of the invention distinguishes different sources of information relating to user's preferences. In addition, user's minimum intervention is necessary; user just needs to identify his apparatus of everyday use. Moreover, the system of the present invention can be adjusted to the source in use by the user at every moment, and the system can make a great variety of recommendations.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING
The present invention will be described herein with relation to a particular embodiment represented in attached figure, included in this specification for illustrative purposes only. Such figure is schematic, and its dimension and/or proportion may not correspond to the reality since it illustrates the present invention didactically, without imposing any limitations other than those contained in the attached claims, wherein: - Figure 1 is a schematic block diagram that illustrates the functioning of the system according to the invention.
DESCRIPTION OF PARTICULAR EMBODIMENTS Figure 1 represents an embodiment of the system of personalized recommendation based on digital television, digital radio, internet browser, cell phone with GPS (Global Positioning System) and credit card transactions, wherein other combinations of electronic systems and services can be used.
The different sources used in the system (1 -5) are associated to one or more multiple users, depending on its nature. Digital television (1 ) and
digital radio (2) are typical examples of multi-user systems, while cell phone (4) and credit card (5) are typical examples of one-user system. Internet browser (3) can be associated to one user through e-mail account or based on login and password. The utilization data of all sources (1 -5) to which a user is associated are sent to a user-specific database (6), resident in a server accessible through the Internet, and classified as personal or group data. These data are processed by a profile management device (7), which access specific Internet sites (10) and interpret data re-feeding the database (6), and generating a user's profile (8). This processing varies according to the type of data stored, for example:
- Certain data indicating that the user has watched a certain channel from digital television at a certain time is confronted with the schedule of that channel available at the internet to define the type of content of the program watched;
- Data indicating the user's position at a certain time of the day (based on the cell phone with GPS) can be used to define that the user was in a specific restaurant, or in a specific theater watching a specific movie, or in a specific event, or in a store of specific articles; - Data informing a transaction by credit card is interpreted as an expense in a shop of specific nature;
- A series of contacts made with a certain person at a defined time is interpreted as an affinity in some aspect of the profile etc.
Therefore, the profile management device (7) interprets information, which is classified according to its nature and stored in the database (6), re-feeds it and defines, based on artificial intelligence techniques, the user's profile (8). The user's profile is used by a search device (9), which automatically searches on the internet (10) information and services of the
user's interest, and recommends to the user information and services of interest through the recommendation device (11), which identifies which source is being used by the user and provides the recommendation through an interface specifically developed for every source. The help system is automatically adjusted to the frequency of the user's information needs based on the re-feed of the acceptation or non-acceptation from the user, which is stored in the database (6).
The present invention has been described in relation to a particular embodiment. Those skilled in the art may develop a wide variation of structural details without, however, deviating from the principles of the present invention. Therefore, the attached claims shall be interpreted as covering all equivalents that fit into the scope and character of the present invention.
