- the agent further contains an alkaline chemical, a penetrant, a stabilizing agent, a wetting agent, a colorant, a hair tonic, an emulsifier and a perfume (see Figs.
- a permanent hair waving agent is classified into: (a) a cold 2 bath type permanent hair waving agent containing its main ingredient thioglycolic acid and its salt, (b) a cold 2 bath type permanent hair waving agent containing its main ingredient cysteine, (c) a cold 2 bath type for curly hair correction use containing its main ingredient thioglycolic acid and its salt, (d) a cold 1 bath type permanent hair waving agent containing its main ingredient thioglycolic acid and its salt, (e) an exothermic 2 bath type permanent hair waving agent containing its main ingredient thioglycolic acid and its salt, and (f) a heating 2 bath type for curly hair correction containing its main ingredient thioglycolic acid and its salt.
- a permanent hair waving agent is classified to aqueous, lotion and cream formulation, most of which are opaque.
- Such a permanent hair waving agent and a hair straightener can reduce and cleave keratin bonds in hair and then oxidize and reform the bonds, which are responsible for hair damage, and their pH generally falls into an alkaline region, thus leading to scalp irritation.
- an offensive odor is elicited due to a reducing agent and a remaining reducing material after reduction.
- Numerous effective ingredients such as vitamins have been developed, which are capable of alleviating scalp irritation, providing stable and elastic curl or straight in a shorter period of time without heat treatment and significantly reducing offensive odor after operation.
- ingredients are liable to decomposition by a reducing agent and an oxidizing agent present in a permanent hair waving agent and a hair straightener and to degradation by an alkaline chemical.
- the ingredients are decomposed in an aqueous solution and therefore it is impossible to incorporate the ingredients into a permanent hair waving agent and a hair straightener.
- w/o type emulsion, liposome or microcapsule have been applied for preparing a novel formulation; however, these formulations have not been able to give the desired efficiency.
- a permanent hair waving agent or a hair straightener comprising a bead with effective nutritious substance for alleviating hair and scalp irritation and protecting and recovering hair and scalp, reducing significantly the occurrence of an offensive odor and exhibiting excellent visual appearance as general cosmetics, in which the nutritious substance has been known to be ineffective in alkaline and acidic solutions and therefore believed to be ineffective in permanent hair waving agent or a hair straightener.
- a permanent hair waving agent or a hair straightener comprising a reducing first agent and an oxidizing second agent or a reducing first agent, wherein each of said reducing first agent and oxidizing second agent comprises (a) a bead of 0.001-10.0 wt% comprising a substance which is stable in a reducing agent, an alkaline chemical, an oxidizing agent, and in acidic and alkaline regions, in which said substance to be stable contains a nutritious substance selected from the group comprising vitamins and its derivatives, a hair growing promoter, a hair protective agent, amino acids, a perfume and a palliative for scalp irritation; and (b) an aqueous thickener of 0.01- 5.0 wt%.
- the present invention is directed to a novel permanent hair waving agent or a hair straightener comprising (a) a bead of a substance which is stable in a reducing agent, an alkaline chemical, an oxidizing agent, and in acidic and alkaline regions, in which the substance to be stable contains a certain amount of a nutritious substance for alleviating hair and scalp irritation and protecting and recovering hair and scalp; and (b) a certain amount of an aqueous thickener for dispersing the bead in an aqueous alkaline and acidic solution with a constant distribution pattern.
- a permanent hair waving agent or a hair straightener can alleviate damage and irritation to hair and scalp, provide stable and elastic curl and straight with rapidity irrespective of heat treatment, reduce significantly the occurrence of an offensive odor, and exhibit excellent visual appearance due to the constant dispersion of beads with different colors in transparent formulation.
- a permanent hair waving agent and a straightener comprise a reducing first agent containing a reducing agent, an alkaline chemical, a thickener, a metal blocking agent and so on, and an oxidizing second agent containing an oxidizing agent, a thickener, a pH modifier, a metal blocking agent and so on.
- a permanent hair waving agent and a straightener comprise a reducing first agent and an oxidizing second agent or a reducing first agent alone.
- the reducing first agent and the oxidizing second agent are characterized in that each of them contains an aqueous thickener of 0.01-5.0 wt% and a bead of 0.001-10.0 wt% .
- the prominent(feature of) element of this invention is prepared in various forms by use of a substance to be stable in a reducing agent, an alkaline chemical, an oxidizing agent, and in acidic and alkaline regions, i.e., at least one selected from the group consisting of phospholipid, reciting lecithin, ethylhexyl palmitate, petrolatum, sodium hyaluronate, mica, titanium dioxide, polyvinyl alcohol, polyethylene, jojoba ester, carbomer, xanthan, gellan gum, alginate, agar, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, algin, glyceryl dimalto dextrin, magnesium aluminum silicate, carrageenans, dextrin and its derivatives, pectin and its derivatives, gelatin and its denaturants, silica gel, silica (SiC ), aluminum oxide and magnesium oxide, or a product of an additional reaction.
- phospholipid reciting lecithin,
- the bead contains a nutritious substance, which can alleviate hair and scalp irritation and protecting, recovering hair and scalp and reducing the occurrence of offensive odor, selected from the group consisting of vitamins and its derivatives, a hair growing promoter, a hair protective agent, amino acids, a perfume and a palliative for scalp irritation.
- the bead has a radius of 0.001-5.0 mm, a specific gravity of 0.5-1.5, various forms such as circular and triangle forms, and various colors depending on substances used which confers excellent appearance.
- the amount of the bead is less than 0.001 wt% in the first and second agents, its prominent actions including alleviation of hair and scalp irritation, excellent maintenance of elastic curl and straight and reduction of offensive odor after operation are far poor; in contrast, if it exceeds 10.0 wt%, the feeling at use and cost-effectiveness become poor.
- the ratio of the amount of the substance to be stable in a reducing agent, an alkaline chemical, an oxidizing agent, and in acidic and alkaline regions to the nutritious substance is 0.01-99.99:99.99-0.01.
- the bead prepared by incorporating the nutritious substance at a certain ratio for alleviation of hair and scalp irritation and protecting and recovering hair and scalp into the substance to be stable in a reducing agent, an alkaline chemical, an oxidizing agent, and in acidic and alkaline regions, is incorporated into the reducing first agent and the oxidizing second agent of a permanent hair waving agent or a hair straightener, so that it may alleviate damage and irritation to hair and scalp, provide stable and elastic curl and straight with rapidity irrespective of heat treatment, provide excellent maintenance and significantly reduce the occurrence of an offensive odor after operation.
- the aqueous thickener used in this invention is employed for accomplishing the dispersion of the beads in aqueous alkaline and acidic solutions with a constant distribution pattern.
- the aqueous thickener is at least one selected from the group consisting of polyquatanium, hydroxyethyl cellulose, carbomer, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and xanthan gum.
- the present invention may use an opaque thickener such as carbomer and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, which exhibits no viscosity and stability in alkaline and acidic regions, as well as a thickener for transparent formulation such as polyquatanium and hydroxyethyl cellulose, which has been widely used because of its stability in alkaline and acidic regions.
- the thickener used in this invention allows the bead with a specific gravity of 0.5-1.5 to be dispersed with a constant distribution pattern. If the amount of the thickener in the reducing first agent and oxidizing second agent is less than 0.01 wt%, its use is inconvenient due to increased fluidity and the contact opportunity of the reducing first agent and oxidizing second agent to scalp is increased to elicit scalp irritation; in contrast, if it exceeds 5.0wt%, its use becomes inconvenient due to higher viscosity and its effect cannot be exhibited.
- the reducing first agent as a reducing agent, comprises at least one selected from the group consisting of thioglycolic acid or its salt and ester, cysteine or its salt and ester.
- Thioglycolic acid-type compounds are used in an amount of 0.1-18.0 wt%, preferably, 1.0-9.0 wt%.
- Cysteine-type compounds are used in an amount of 0.1-11.0 wt%, preferably, 3.0-7.5 wt%.
- the amount of the alkaline chemical ranges from 0.001 to 10.0 wt%, rendering pH of the first agent to be 4.5-10.5, preferably, 6.0-9.6. If pH of the first agent containing alkaline chemical is less than 4.5, a hair swelling becomes much poorer to result in poor curl and straight; in contrast, if it exceeds pH 10.5, a hair damage and scalp irritation will be resulted.
- another ingredient such as a perfume, a surfactant, a hair protective agent, a penetrant, a stabilizer, a humectant, a colorant and an emulsifier may be contained.
- oxidizing agent as oxidizing agent, at least one selected from the group consisting of aqueous hydrogen peroxide, sodium bromate, potassium bromate and sodium perborate is included in an amount of 0.1-20.0 wt%.
- aqueous hydrogen peroxide(35%) is less than 0.1 wt% and the amount of the oxidizing agent selected from the group consisting of sodium bromate, potassium bromate and sodium perborate is less than 2.0 wt%, the fixation of curl and straight becomes problematic due to weak oxidizing potential; in contrast, if it exceeds 9.0 wt% of aqueous hydrogen peroxide(35%) and 20.0 wt% of the oxidizing agent selected from the group consisting of sodium bromate, potassium bromate and sodium perborate, a hair damage is very likely to occur.
- At least one organic acid selected from the group consisting of phosphoric acid, citric acid, ascorbic acid and sodium phosphate is included to adjust pH of the second agent to 2.0-10.5, preferably, 2.5-9.6. If pH of the second agent containing the pH modifier is lower than 2.0, the fixation of curl and straight becomes poor; in contrast, if it exceeds 10.5, the inferior fixation of curl and straight, hair damage and scalp irritation is likely to occur.
- another ingredient such as a perfume, a surfactant, a hair protective agent, a penetrant, a stabilizer, a humectant, a colorant and an emulsifier may be contained.
- the beads are disrupted at the time of operation, from which the nutritious substance is released.
- the nutritious substance released alleviates significantly hair damage and scalp irritation, provides stable and elastic curl and straight with rapidity irrespective of heat treatment, provides excellent maintenance and significantly reduce the occurrence of an offensive odor after operation.
- Fig. 1 schematically shows the action mechanism of permanent hair waving agent.
- Fig. 2 schematically shows the action mechanism of both a permanent hair waving agent and a hair straightener.
- Fig. 3' is a plane figure of a test device for evaluating the efficiency of wave formation.
- Fig. 4 is a side view of a test device for evaluating the efficiency of wave formation.
- EXAMPLES 1-4 AND COMPARATIVE EXAMPLES 1-3 The reducing first agent and oxidizing second agent of permanent hair. waving agent or a hair straightener were prepared by use of ingredients indicated in Tables 1 and 2 according to the conventional method.
- Metasomes stabilizer: Ethylhexyl palmitate, Petrolatum, Polyethylene/ nutritious substance: Vitamin E, Ascorbic acid, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Retinyl palmitate, Beta-carotene, content ratio: 90-95:10-5, available from Floratech America
- the perspiration solution was prepared in such a manner that sodium hydroxide and distilled water were added to a mixture containing 0.5 g of L- cysteine chloric acid (1 hydrate), 0.5 g of sodium chloride and 5.0 g of sodium phosphate, dibasic (12 hydrates), so that pH and volume of the resultant was adjusted to 11.0 and 1L.
- Mathematical Formula 2 Wave Maintenance Rate(%) (efficiency of wave formation after maintenance test/ efficiency of wave formation before maintenance test) x 100
- the permanent hair waving agent or the hair straightener of this invention in Examples 1-4 showed less hair damage, alleviated scalp irritation, provided stable and elastic curl and straight with rapidity and excellent maintenance, and significantly reduced the occurrence of offensive odor. Furthermore, the permanent hair waving agent or the hair straightener of this invention exhibits excellent visual appearance due to the constant dispersion of beads in transparent reducing first and oxidizing second agents. Since a permanent hair waving agent and a hair straightener are practically the same with respect to compositions and operation time schedule with the exceptions in devices for operation, Experimental Examples for a hair straightener could be avoided due to the same effects associated with two agents.
- the present invention is directed to a permanent hair waving agent or a hair straightener comprising (a) a bead of a substance to be stable in a reducing agent, an alkaline chemical, an oxidizing agent, and in acidic and alkaline regions, in which the substance to be stable contains a certain amount of a nutritious substance for alleviating hair and scalp irritation and protecting and recovering hair and scalp; and (b) a certain amount of an aqueous thickener for dispersing the bead in aqueous alkaline and acidic solutions with a constant distribution pattern.
- the present permanent hair waving agent or a hair straightener can alleviate damage and irritation to hair and scalp, provide stable and elastic curl and straight with rapidity irrespective of heat treatment, significantly reduce the occurrence of an offensive odor, and exhibit excellent visual appearance due to the constant dispersion of beads with different color in transparent formulation.
