Abstract

A seat accessory is used to support a user in a bleacher-type stadium seating element. The accessory includes a padded seat section and a padded back section which are coupled together by a mechanism that permits the sections to be folded together for storage and/or transport, yet which will permit the sections to be set up into a use configuration that accommodates comfortable seating by the user. The seat accessory also includes hooks that can be moved between a stored condition and a use condition and which will securely engage the stadium seating element when in the use condition.

Description

STADIUM SEAT ACCESSORY
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to the general art of seats, and to the particular field of stadium seats.
2. Discussion of the Related Art Millions of people attend stadium events each year. Many stadiums have bench seating, that is, the stadium provides benches on which spectators sit . Such benches are generally found in the bleacher section. These benches serve a purpose of permitting the stadium to accommodate many more people than would be possible with chairs or chair-like seats which may be found in special club sections or the like. However, benches do not usually have back supporting elements. Thus, a spectator may become uncomfortable after a short time due to the lack of back support. This is especially the case if the person has a back problem. In fact, the discomfort of such stadium seating elements often is a factor used by a potential spectator to decide not to attend an event in a stadium. Therefore, there is a need for a stadium seat that will permit a user to comfortably sit on the seating provided by a stadium. While the chair art contains several examples of accessories that could be used to support a user, the inventor is not aware of any such device that is easily stored and transported to and from a stadium and yet will provide a comfortable seat for the user. Some accessories are cumbersome to carry and may even include elements that will snag clothing or the like when being transported to the user's seat. Therefore, there is a need for a stadium seat that can be stored in a configuration that is convenient for safe and compact storage and transport . Some accessories are quite complicated to move between a stored configuration and a use configuration. Many snaps, buckles and levers must be operated to make this transition. Such complicated maneuvers may discourage use of such items, especially if the user is arriving late to the event and must take his or her seat during the event. In such a situation, the spectator will wish to sit down as quickly as possible so as to not block the view of other spectators. Such a situation is not conducive to operating a stadium seat accessory that is complicated and may require several movements to open. Therefore, there is a need for a stadium seat that can be quickly and easily moved between a stored configuration and a use configuration. One of the most important aspects of any seat that will be used for a great length of time is the support of the user's back. Long periods of sitting with no back support are not only uncomfortable, they may be dangerous for someone with deficiencies in their back muscles or back structure. The discomfort may even detract from the person's enjoyment of the event being attended. Therefore, there is a need for a stadium seat that securely supports a user's back.
PRINCIPAL OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION It is a main object of the present invention to provide a stadium seat that will permit a user to comfortably sit on the seating provided by a stadium. It is another object of the present invention to provide a stadium seat that can be stored in a configuration that is convenient for safe and compact storage and transport . It is another object of the present invention to provide a stadium seat that can be quickly and easily moved between a stored configuration and a use configuration. It is another object of the present invention to provide a stadium seat that securely supports a user' s back. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION These, and other, objects are achieved by a stadium seat that can be moved between a folded configuration and a use configuration and which includes a back portion and a seat portion as well as hooks that can move between a stored condition and a deployed condition. A mechanism movably joins the back portion to the seat portion so the back and seat portions can be moved between the folded configuration and the use configuration. Both the seat portion and the back portion have padding so the stadium seat is comfortable. The hooks will engage the stadium seating element to maintain the stadium seat securely in position, yet can be moved into the stored condition so the hooks will be out of the way when they are not being used to engage the stadium seating element. Using the stadium seat embodying the present invention will permit a user to easily carry the seat and to easily and quickly deploy the seat into a use configuration. Once the seat is mounted on the stadium seating element, the user can comfortably and securely sit for long periods of time with his or her back supported.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING FIGURES Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stadium seat embodying the present invention in a use configuration. Figure 2 is an elevational view taken along line 2-2 of Figure 1. Figure 3 is a detailed view showing anchor hooks of the stadium seat of the present invention in a deployed configuration. Figure 4 is a perspective view of the stadium seat embodying the present invention in a folded configuration.
