Abstract

De manière à suivre une piste d'information (1) sur un support d'information (2), on produit un signal push-pull (PP). La polarité du signal push-pull (PP) est différente selon différents types de supports d'information (2). Les moyens de suivi (8) doivent réagir différemment à un signal push-pull (PP) de polarité positive et à un signal push-pull (PP) de polarité négative. L'invention concerne donc un procédé de balayage d'une piste d'information (1) consistant à déterminer d'abord la polarité du signal push-pull (PP) et à régler les moyens de suivi (8) dans un premier ou dans un second mode en fonction de la polarité du signal push-pull (PP). Dans le premier mode, les moyens de suivi (8) réagissent d'une manière différente à celle du second mode. La détermination de la polarité du signal push-pull (PP) peut être réalisée de plusieurs manières. La polarité peut être stockée sur le support d'information (2), les moyens de détermination de la polarité (9) lisant la polarité à partir du support d'information (2). Dans un autre mode de réalisation, les moyens de détermination de la polarité (9) déterminent la polarité en obligeant les moyens de suivi (8) de passer successivement dans un fonctionnement selon les premier et second modes, et d'évaluer dans quel mode le faisceau de balayage (6) se trouve sur la piste.
