Abstract

A panel (11) has a wooden body, which is formed of board-shaped building elements (5) arranged side by side, parallel to each other. The wooden body comprises at least two board-shaped building elements (5), each of which is mad eof two boards (2a, 2d) sawn from a log and having at least partially remaining wane portions (3a, 3d). The boards (2a, 2d) are placed on top of each other and glued together, their narrow faces bearing against one another.

Description

A PANEL HAVING A WOODEN BODY M7ADE BY BOARD-SHAPED
BUILDING ELEMENTS
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a panel having a wooden body, which is formed of board-shaped building elements arranged side by side, parallel to each other. Summary of the Invention
The object of the present invention is to provide a panel having a wooden body, which comprises board-shaped building elements, which are relatively light and dimen- sionally stable and which allow the use of sawn boards, said boards being in turn such as to allow an improved sawing yield to be obtained when sawing a log and, in some cases, allow logs of smaller diameter, which would otherwise serve as pulpwood, to be used for sawing suitable boards . According to the invention, this object is achieved by a board, which is of the type stated by way of introduction and which is characterised in that the wooden body comprises at least two board-shaped building elements, each of which is made of two boards sawn from a log and having at least partially remaining wane portions, said boards being placed on top of each other and glued together, their narrow faces bearing against one another. Brief Description of the Drawings The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings .
Fig. 1A is an end view showing the sawing yield when a log is sawn in conventional manner.
Fig. IB corresponds to Fig. 1A but shows the sawing yield when the log is sawn for production of boards to be used in a building element intended for a wooden body in a panel according to the invention. Fig . 2 is an end view showing two boards obtained by sawing the log as indicated in Fig. IB.
Fig. 3 is an end view showing a building element made of the two boards in Fig. 2. Fig . 4 is an end view showing one example of an inventive panel which has a body consisting of two building elements according to Fig. 3. Description of a Preferred Embodiment
Fig. 1A shows a log 1 sawn through in the longitu- dinal direction. Four boards 2a-2d are sawn from the log 1 using five longitudinal saw cuts sl-s5. In conventional procedures, the wane portions 3a-3d of these boards 2a-2d are removed by the boards being cut clean by means of edgers, the boards being sawn along the saw cuts indi- cated by 4a-4d in.Fig. 1A, whereby the wane portions are removed.
Fig. IB shows the same log 1 as in Fig. 1A, the log being sawn through in the same manner in the longitudinal direction for the purpose of making boards 2a-2d. The sawing illustrated in Fig. IB differs from the one shown in Fig . 1A only in that sawing intended to remove the wane portions 3a-3d is not carried out. This results in a greater sawing yield when sawing according to Fig. IB than when sawing according to Fig. 1A. Figs 2 and 3 show how a board-shaped building element 5 is made by means of two boards 2a and 2d, which are made using the procedure illustrated in Fig. IB, i.e. which have remaining wane portions respectively 3a and 3d. These boards 2a and 2d thus have a wide face 6a and 6d, respectively, and a narrow face 7a and 7d, respectively. The latter faces 7a and 7d are planed, after which glue is applied to at least one of them. The boards 2a and 2d are then placed on top of each other, their narrow faces 7a and 7d facing one another, to obtain the board-shaped building element 5 consisting of two boards 2a and 2d that are glued together. If needed or desired the faces 6a and 6d of the building element 5 can be planed and its edge sides profiled to obtain the desired profile. It is particularly desirable for this profile to have a planed portion 8a, 8d, which extends perpendicularly to the two faces 6a and 6d of the building element 5 (see Fig. 4) . Said profile can also have a planed portion (not shown) which extends obliquely relative to the two faces 6a and 6d.
The building element 5 is lighter than a corre- sponding building element of the same thickness and width, which is made of two boards produced by sawing according to Fig. 1A. This is because the building element 5 has at its lateral edges recesses 9 defined by the wane portions 3a and 3d. Furthermore, the building element 5 is highly dimensionally stable owing to the narrow faces 7a and 7d of the boards being joined together, which means that the arched annual ring portions 10a and lOd in the two boards are curved in opposite directions. Thus, when moisture changes occur in the boards 2a and 2d they aim at moving (warping) in opposite directions, so that the tendencies towards movement cancel each other out .
The panel 11 shown in Fig. 4 has a body, which is formed of two building elements 5 according to Fig. 3 arranged side by side, parallel to each other. The building elements 5 are arranged next to each other, their planed portions 8a and 8d bearing against one another. An upper surface layer 12 and a lower surface layer 13 are attached, preferably by gluing, to the two building elements 5.
