Description

METHOD FOR TRANSMITTING HDLC FRAME SETTING
INFORMATION IN A FRAME RELAY LINE CARD OF
AN ATM EXCHANGE
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to a method for transmitting HDLC frame setting information in a frame relay line card of an ATM device, and more particularly, to a method for transmitting HDLC frame setting information in a frame relay line card of an ATM device which enables more effective HDLC frame setting management. The method of the present invention is based on a scheme of inserting HDLC frame setting information into user information for transmission and setting a path on a trunk for user information. The trunk path setting can be accomplished by using the function of extracting HDLC frame setting information from user information and the time division multiplexing function. With the trunk path setting, a network controller in a central station can allocate any time slot in a tniiik for user information and transmit HDLC frame setting information originating from an ATM device frame relay line card, without having to use a separate communication route.
BACKGROUND ART
Generally, a frame relay line card manager in a conventional ATM device is designed to assign one of the available trunks for user information as a trunk for management information or set a communication route for management information to receive HDLC frame setting information from a central station network or a main controller. The conventional frame relay line card manager will be briefly explained below by reference to Fig. 1.
Fig. 1 is a block diagram showing a typical setting of an HDLC frame according to the conventional technology. As shown in Fig. 1, in ATM device frame relay line card 10, HDLC frame setting information for an HDLC frame and time slot is received and set through the external HDLC frame setting information route SI, or one of existing eight trunks 40 for user information (HDLC frame setting information route S2) is allocated and used. In this case, a communication port between networks for use by an operator must be further installed and effective management of trunks is also difficult because seven trunks of the existing eight trunks can be used for user information but one trunk cannot be used. Also, in case that central networks are different from one trunk to next, it is more difficult to gather the setting information from the different networks 20, 30 and transmit with one trunk.
In other words, conventional technology as above is inefficient since any tirjjik of available trunks for user information must be used or a separate communication route must be made for HDLC frame setting information. Also, in case that central networks are different from one trunk to next, there is a problem that it is not easy to gather setting information requested by each of central networks.
DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION
Therefore, it is an object of the present invention to provide a method for transmitting HDLC frame setting information in a frame relay line card of an ATM device which enables more effective HDLC frame setting management. The method of the present invention is based on a scheme of inserting HDLC frame setting information into user information for transmission, in other words, setting a path on a trunk for user information. The trunk path setting can be accomplished by using the function of extracting HDLC frame setting information from user information and the time division multiplexing function. With the tnrnk path setting, a network controller in a central station can allocate any time slot in a trunk for user information and transmit HDLC frame setting information originating from an ATM device frame relay line card, without having to use a separate communication route.
In order to attain the above object, the present invention of a preferable embodiment is disclosed in a method for transmitting HDLC frame setting information in a frame relay line card of an ATM device, which comprises HDLC frame processor, DS1E frame processor and line card manager, eight trunks for user information inputted into the DS IE frame processor are used for user information and setting information is loaded into No. 0 time slot or arbitrarily allocated available time slot of each trunk for transmission, the inputted eight trunks go through the DS1E frame processor and are separated into user information and connection setting information at HDLC frame setting information extractor, then user information is transmitted to the HDLC frame processor and HDLC frame setting information is transmitted to line card manager with time-division multiplexed.
Also, in order to attain the above object, the present invention is characterized that the line card manager is constructed such that it instructs setting of HDLC frame processor according to the inputted HDLC frame setting information, and sets HDLC frame setting information by allocating any time slot in trunks for user information. The foregoing and other objects and features of the present invention will become more fully apparent from the following description and appended claims, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

The presently preferred embodiments of the invention will be best understood by reference to the drawings, wherein like parts or steps are designated by like numerals throughout.
Fig. 2 is a block diagram showing one embodiment of HDLC frame setting information path in a trunk according to the present invention.
As shown in Fig. 2, eight trunks for user information, which are inputted into DS1E frame processor 12, are used for user information as originally intended, and No. 0 time slot or available time slot of each trunk is arbitrarily allocated and used to load setting information. The inputted eight frunks go through the DS1E frame processor 12 and are separated into user information and connection setting information at HDLC frame setting information extractor 50, then user information is transmitted to HDLC frame processor 11 and HDLC frame setting information is time-division multiplexed and transmitted to line card manager 13.
Fig. 3 shows the function of HDLC frame setting information extractor according to the present invention, and Fig. 4 shows the time-division multiplexed form of HDLC frame setting information according to the present invention.
As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, line card manager 13 is constructed such that it instructs the setting of HDLC frame processor 11 according to the inputted HDLC frame setting information.
As a result, the present invention makes more effective management possible and makes modification of setting during operating easy by allocating arbitrary time slot in trunks for user information without allocating separate trunks or making separate communication path as conventionally in order to set HDLC frame setting information.
