Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method for applying an information-encoding watermark in a chronological sequence of individual images (image sequence), in particular in the case of a video film or a video film sequence, wherein the sequence can be associated with an acoustic signal (tone sequence) which changes over time.
- image sequence image sequence
- the invention also relates to a method for attaching an information-encoding watermark to an audio recording in digital form, in particular to a musical or spoken performance.
- the object of the invention is to provide an efficient method for applying watermarks on digital films or programs, for example on videos, which can be implemented with simple means, reliably with both works with compressed as well as with uncompressed material and that guarantees a high security especially against attacks with statistical methods.
- the particular idea of the invention is generally to break down the original into “macroscopically” long partial sequences that are differentiable for the viewer or listener and to encode the information of the watermark in its sequence and not within a single partial sequence.
- this means that the information encoding the watermark is not to be found in a single picture, but rather is coded as a result of the change of a parameter which is constant within a picture sequence and which characterizes the individual pictures or the assigned sound signal, which changes from part-sequence to part-sequence take advantage of the fact that video and audio data have a temporal course and thus a time axis.
- the image sequence is divided into partial sequences according to the invention, one partial sequence each comprising several individual images.
- a partial sequence one or more of the image sequence and / or are r parameters inherent in the assigned acoustic signal changed in relation to the original to be marked.
- the change in the parameter or parameters is retained over the entire partial sequence and the information is encoded in the sequence of the change in the parameter which varies from partial sequence to partial sequence.
- the length of a partial sequence can initially be chosen arbitrarily. It is ultimately defined by the change in the change in the parameter.
- the particular advantage of the invention results from the fact that the change relates to the entire image or at least a large part of the image and not to specific pixels. Changing a parameter also only encodes information of one bit depth. Attacks on the watermark that are carried out using statistical methods must therefore fail.
- several parameters are changed within a partial sequence, the change from partial sequence to partial sequence correspondingly varied. In this way, the watermarks contain a higher amount of information.
- the method according to the invention can be used in the case of images and / or sound sequences present in analog or digital form. It can also be used for audio recordings, since they can also be divided into sequences within which one or more such parameters can be changed.
- the partial sequences each have a determinable duration, which are advantageously defined by the piece to be marked. The duration can be specified by a stanza, a chorus, a bar or a word. A certain parameter is maintained within this period, which can change a little to the next partial sequence without the listener noticing the change.
- a system setting in particular the brightness, the strength of a color component, a contrast or the volume of a channel, are suitable as changeable parameters, the system setting remaining constant within a partial sequence and thus being statistically inconspicuous and imperceptible. It is particularly clever when the change to a subsequent partial sequence is made on a perceptible cut of the original, which itself closes a semantic unit. At this point, a change can be made completely inconspicuously.
- the non-watermarked original can be used for comparison.
- the changes in one or more parameters are related to the corresponding original sequences, so that the digital watermark is determined as a series of "absolute" sizes.
- the watermark approach according to the invention can use a secret key when reading in and reading out and can be inverted if possible. If the plotted sequence is subtracted, the original video is restored except for rounding errors.
- the method according to the invention can be used with uncompressed and with compressed data.
- MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 (MPEG Motion (Moving) Pictures Expert Group) and other proprietary codes are used as transmission codecs.
- MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 the data is compressed as follows: First, a full image with all image information is transmitted, which was DCT-transformed and quantized in a manner similar to the JPEG standard (I frame). This is followed by a series of difference images, in which only the difference between the new image and the previous image is transferred. With MPEG-2 there is also a motion estimation for the individual 8 x 8 blocks in order to keep the difference images small.
- the audio data are based on a psychoacoustic model and a filter bank using lossy ones Compression reduced to a fixed data rate. With regard to compression and decompression, the methods according to the invention are extremely robust.
- a change from one partial sequence to the next partial sequence is advantageously initiated by an I frame, each partial sequence having a defined number of I frames. Then the change is least noticeable.
- the video can be broken down into GOPs (Group of Pictures,) according to a fixed number of I-frames. This increases the efficiency of the process.
- a smooth transition between the individual GOPs can be implemented here, e.g. B. by gradually changing the brightness in the last frames of the i-th partial sequence and in the first frames of the (i + 1) -th partial sequence.
- audio data can be divided into groups with a fixed number of frames. Efficiency increases considerably here too. The choice of the number of frames leads directly to the control of the resulting transparency.
- the methods according to the invention also achieve high high transparency, great robustness and high security against coalition attacks.
- the transparency can be adapted to the visual quality over a wide range.
- the changes according to the invention are therefore imperceptible to the viewer or the listener.
- the method can be implemented with simple means and may even offer the possibility of particularly fast "online" marking.
- customer-specific identification digital fingerprint
- the important aspect in the area of security for fingerprint watermarks is the robustness mentioned against a coalition attack The scenes are marked differently for each customer, but several customers have sufficiently identical scenes in common, so that even after a coalition attack, an intersection is retained from which the pirates are determined become.
- the changes to the parameters are made in the uncompressed medium.
- the modified medium is then compressed again.
- the watermark is not lost due to the compression.
- the original is not based on the original recording, but rather on the edited recording.
- An individual watermark ("digital fingerprint") is placed in a medium, for example, as follows:
- the medium is broken down into t partial sequences.
