Abstract

It is possible to reduce trouble (such as video disorder or audio break when the signal is a video signal or an audio signal) due to lowering of quality of the reception signal when the signal is transmitted/received in digital broadcast. A transmission apparatus (3) multiplexes an original signal Ai with a delay preliminary signal Ai-N’ obtained by performing an information quantity reduction processing to the original signal Ai and adding an N-frame delay to it and transmits the multiplexed signal. A reception apparatus (4) receives the multiplexed signal Ai+Ai-N’, separates the original signal Ai from the delay preliminary signal Ai-N’, and adds an N-frame delay to the original signal Ai. The reception apparatus (4) decides whether the delay original signal Ai-N exceeds a predetermined quality and selects the delay original signal Ai or the delay preliminary signal Ai-N’ to be processed according to the decision result.
