Description

METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING HOSIERY ITEMS WITH HOLD-UP EFFECT, PARTICULARLY WITH CIRCULAR HOSIERY KNITTING MACHINES, AND HOSIERY ITEM OBTAINED THEREBY Technical Field The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing men's or women's hosiery items with hold-up effect, particularly with circular hosiery knitting machines, and to a hosiery item obtained thereby. Background Art
As is known, the hold-up effect in women's stockings, except for pantyhose, and in men's socks is entrusted exclusively to the elasticity of the top, which constitutes the upper end of the leg of the hosiery item. This elasticity is achieved by using, to form this part of the hosiery item, yarns that have a high elasticity and are fed, with adequately pretensioning, to the needles of the machine used to produce the hosiery item. The pretensioning of the elastic yarns to form the top cannot be increased beyond a certain limit, since excessive tensioning may cause user discomfort.
Moreover, use and repeated washing of hosiery items gradually reduce the elasticity of the yarns, significantly reducing the hold-up effect of the top.
In order to improve the hold-up effect of hosiery items without raising the tensioning of the elastic yarns to extreme levels, in some kinds of hosiery items, known as hold-ups, the inner side of the top, i.e., the side that is designed to be directed toward the user's skin, is spread with a layer of silicone-based resin that improves the adhesion of the top to the skin.
Although this method unquestionably improves the hold-up effect, it has the problem that it requires an additional treatment of the hosiery item that inevitably increases its production costs. Disclosure of the Invention The aim of the present invention is to solve the above-described problems by providing a method that allows to produce men's or women's hosiery items, particularly with circular hosiery knitting machines, with an excellent hold-up effect without raising to extreme levels the pretensioning of the elastic yarns when forming the top and without resorting necessarily to additional processes.
Within this aim, an object of the present invention is to provide a method that can be performed in currently commercially available hosiery knitting machines.
Another object of the invention is to provide a method that without necessarily requiring additional treatments on the hosiery items allows to produce hosiery items with an excellent hold-up effect at costs that are comparable to those of conventional hosiery items.
This aim and these and other objects that will become better apparent hereinafter are achieved by a method for producing men's or women's hosiery items with hold-up effect, particularly with circular hosiery knitting machines, which comprises a step of forming the foot and leg of the hosiery item and, before or after said step of forming the foot and leg of the hosiery item, a step for forming the top of the hosiery item, characterized in that during the formation of the top, rows of knitting or portions of rows of knitting of the top are formed by means of at least one bare elastomer thread, said bare elastomer thread being knitted so as to be exposed at least partially on the side of the top of the hosiery item that is designed to face the user's skin.
The hosiery item obtained with the method according to the invention comprises a foot of the hosiery item, a leg, and a top arranged at the upper end of the leg, and is characterized in that said top has, at least on its side designed to be directed toward the user's skin, rows of knitting or portions of rows of knitting made of natural elastomer. Brief description of the drawings Further characteristics and advantages of the present invention will become better apparent from the following detailed description of a preferred but not exclusive embodiment thereof, illustrated by way of non- limitative example in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view of a hosiery item executed with the method according to the invention;
Figure 2 is a view of a further embodiment of the execution of the top of a hosiery item obtained with the method according to the invention;
Figure 3 is a view of a further embodiment of the top of a hosiery item obtained with the method according to the invention. Ways to carrying out the Invention
The method according to the invention comprises a step for providing the foot 2 and the leg 3 of a hosiery item, which is generally designated by the reference numeral 1, and comprises, before or after the step for forming the foot 2 and the leg 3 of the hosiery item, a step for forming the top 4, depending on whether the production of the hosiery item begins from the toe or the top, in a per se known manner.
According to the invention, during the step for forming the top 4 of the hosiery item 1, rows of knitting 5 or portions of rows of knitting 5a are formed by means of at least one bare elastomer thread. The bare elastomer thread is knitted so as to be at least partially exposed on the side of the top 4 of the hosiery item that will face the user's skin.
The bare elastomer thread can be constituted by a thread made entirely of elastomer, for example rubber, or by a material known commercially by the trademark Lycra, or by a material known commercially by the trademark Elastane, or a silicone-based elastomer, or can be constituted by a thread with a core made of natural or synthetic textile fiber coated with a natural or synthetic elastomer.
Depending on the hold-up effect that is sought, it is possible to provide one or more complete rows of knitting 5 produced with the bare elastomer thread. The rows of knitting 5, as shown in Figure 1, may be formed in succession to each other and can be meshed together or, as shown in Figure
2, can be constituted by complete rows of knitting 5 that are alternated and meshed together with rows of knitting 6 formed by means of natural or synthetic yarns that are not made of bare elastomer.
As shown in Figure 3, the top regions 4 formed with the bare elastomer thread can be limited to portions of rows of knitting 5a, even to individual stitches, that are knitted by means of a same needle or by means of different needles so as to provide, on the inner side of the top, i.e., on the side of the top that is designed to face the user's skin, more or less extensive regions in which the bare elastomer thread is exposed on the inner side of the top 4, alternated with regions 7 made of other natural or synthetic yarns not made of bare elastomer.
The bare elastomer thread can be knitted in individually or together with other threads not made of bare elastomer. In this last case, the threads are knitted, with conventional methods, for example vanise knitting, that in any case allows to keep the bare elastomer thread protruding on the inner side of the top.
Merely as an example, in a machine provided with a plurality of feeds or drops, the bare elastomer thread can be provided at a feed or drop of the machine. If one or more complete rows of knitting 5 of bare elastomer thread are to be obtained, at the feed where the bare elastomer thread is provided all the needles of the machine are made to knit at said feed or drop by means of a needle selection performed in a per se known manner, so as to form knitting with the bare elastomer thread provided at said feed. If instead portions of rows of knitting 5a formed with the bare elastomer thread alternated with portions of rows of knitting formed with another thread that is not made of bare elastomer are to be obtained, at the feed where the bare elastomer thread is fed only some of the needles of the machine are made to knit, while the other needles knit the threads that are not made of bare elastomer and are provided at the other feeds of the machine. The bare elastomer thread can be kept floating at the needles that do not engage the thread or can be cut after optional weaving to prevent the unraveling of the thread, performed in a per se known manner. The top 4 can be formed with single thickness or with double thickness as shown, in a per se known manner.
The hosiery item 1 obtained with the method according to the invention has, on the inner side of the top 4, i.e., on the side that is designed to face the user's skin, one or more complete rows of knitting 5 or portions of rows of knitting 5a that are formed with the bare elastomer thread and are at least partially exposed on the inner side of the hosiery item so as to adhere to the user's skin.
Thanks to this adhesion, an excellent hold-up effect of the hosiery item is obtained even after several washes of the hosiery item. It should be observed that the bare elastomer thread can also be dyed before it is knitted by the needles of the machine.
In practice it has been observed that the method according to the invention fully achieves the intended aim, since it allows to produce men's or women's hosiery items, particularly with circular hosiery knitting machines, that have an excellent hold-up effect without having to provide extreme pretensioning of the elastic threads in forming the top and without having to resort to additional treatments, such as spreading with silicone- based resins or the like.
Another advantage of the method according to the invention, which arises from the fact that the hold-up effect of the hosiery item is obtained simply by using a particular knitting of the bare elastomer thread, is that it allows to produce hosiery items with costs that are comparable with those of conventional hosiery items.
The method thus conceived is susceptible of numerous modifications and variations, all of which are within the scope of the appended claims; all the details may further be replaced with other technically equivalent elements.
The disclosures in Italian Patent Application No. MI2001A001539 from which this application claims priority are incorporated herein by reference.
