  • a "unit measurer” comprises a plurality of blocks of different length. The length of each of the blocks is precisely selected so the amount of depression of the end of the plunger rod is limited and a selected volume can be delivered after removal of the block. Again, removal of the block may interfere with the position of the plunger. Further, the movement of the plunger is stopped by the bottom of the cylinder (barrel 22 in figure 1) and is likely to deform, thus altering the dosage further still.
  • the said end of the cylinder and/or the end of the plunger rod is provided with at least a first stop, which allows a movement of the plunger sufficient for priming the syringe, and preferably at least a second stop, which allows sufficient movement of the plunger for ejecting a selected quantity of the medicament.
  • the end of the said cylinder respectively of the plunger rod is more accessible thus improving ease of handling and reducing the risk of interfering with the axial position of the plunger.
  • the stop(s) is (are) located on the end of the plunger rod
  • the stop co-operates with a counterpart on the cylinder and that the stops are rotatable with respect to the cylinder. If the plunger rod is connected to the plunger by means of a threaded connection, it is preferred that the stops are rotatable with respect to the plunger rod. Thus, unscrewing of a plunger rod, as a result of rotating the stops, is substantially avoided.

I.e., instead of having to provide, store, and use several different syringes containing different quantities of a medicament, and having to carry out extensive stability tests to establish the stability of each particular quantity in each syringe of a particular size, it its thus possible to employ a single type (size) of syringe.

  • plunger rod 8 is connected to the plunger 6 by means of a threaded connection.
  • the end of plunger rod 8 remote from the plunger 6 comprises a rotationally symmetrical, e.g. circular, pusher 9 on which a block e.g. a clip 10 has been attached by means of a snap fit connection.
  • the clip 10 comprises a slot 11 extending through one of its side walls and in a plane at least substantially perpendicular to the central axis 12 of the plunger rod 8.
  • the inner diameter of the slot 11 is equal to or slightly larger than the outer diameter of the circular pusher 9.
  • the clip 10 comprises, e.g. two, first stops 13 which, in the radial direction (i.e. in a direction at least substantially perpendicular to the central axis 12) , extend beyond the outer surface of the cylinder 2, i.e. are not in line with the rim 3 of the cylinder 2, whilst remaining within the radial limits of the finger grips 7. It also comprises, again e.g. two, second stops 14 which, in the axial direction, are further removed form the rim 3 of the cylinder 2 than the first stops 13 and, in the radial direction, overlap at least partly with the rim 3 of the cylinder 2.
  • the position of the second stops is selected such that the plunger 6 cannot reach the bottom of the cylinder 2. Further, by carefully selecting the axial positions of the stops 13, 14, the amount of medicament that, after administration, remains inside the syringe 1 and thus does not cause unnecessary contamination or health risks, can be kept small.
  • a kit in accordance with the present invention preferably comprises one or more pre- illed syringes 1 and several, e.g. five clips 10 of different colour and with gradually increasing distances between the first and second stops (s) 13, 14.
  • the clips 10 are, for instance, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red whereas the said distances increase with steps in a range from e.g. 1 to 5 mm, depending on the dimensions of the syringe (s) 1 and corresponding to the required quantities of the medicament.
  • a user can select a clip 10 in accordance with a particular parameter, e.g. bodyweight .

  • the blue clip could be intended for a person with a body weight in a range from e.g. 50 to 60 kilos, the green clip for a range from 61-70 kilos, the yellow clip for a range form 71-80, and so on.
  • the syringe 1 in accordance with the present invention can be used as follows : 1) screw the threaded end of the plunger rod 8 into the plunger 6, place the clip 10 on the pusher 9 of the rod 8, and position the first stops 13 of the clip 10 in line with the finger grips 7 (figure 2A) ; 2) remove protection cap 15 and prime the syringe 1 by pressing on the clip 10 until the first stops 13 abut finger grips 7 (figure 2B) ;
  • FIGS. 3A and 3B show a second clip 10 in accordance with the present invention, the upper part 15 of which is curved.
  • a slot 11 provides access to a cavity 16, which runs the length of the upper part 15 and which thus provides a curved path for a pusher of a syringe.
  • One or more, in this case two, relatively long first stops 13, having a curved cross-section so as to improve bending stiffness, are provided on either side of the upper part 15 near the slot 11 and a corresponding number of shorter second stops 14 are provided on either side near the other end of the upper part 15.
  • the bottom wall of the cavity 16 comprises a slide (not shown) for accommodating a plunger rod.
  • the upper wall of the cavity 16 comprises two substantially flat portions, located over first and second stops 13, 14 and indicated by the words "prime" and "inject".
  • the stops 13, 14 are shaped to cooperate with the rim of the cylinder of a syringe or with a safety device surrounding at least part of the syringe.
  • a safety device surrounding at least part of the syringe.
  • Such safety devices are commonly known and are typically intended for protection against accidental needle stick hazard and surround at least part of the cylinder of the syringe.
  • FIG. 4A to 4C show a third clip 10 according to the present invention.
  • a slot 11 provides access to a cavity 16, which comprises a slide 17 in its top wall for accommodating a plunger rod 8 and a slide 18 in its bottom wall for accommodating the cylinder of a syringe.
  • the width of the slide 18 is slightly smaller than the width of the cylinder, except for two portions 19, 20, where the width of the slide is similar to that of the cylinder and where the clip 10, once positioned on the cylinder, will automatically halt.
  • the positions 19, 20 are located between first and second stops 13 , 14 and marked by the words "prime” and "inject”. To improve the resilience of the clip 10, the slides 17 and 18 extend into a notch 21.
  • This third embodiment of the clip 10 can be placed over a rim or, if present, finger grips at or near the end of the cylinder 2 of a syringe and can be operated in a way similar to that of the second embodiment, i.e. be pushed rather than rotated from the "prime" to the "inject” position.
  • the invention enables the administration of a selected quantity of a medicament, substantially without risking an axial shift of the plunger in between the priming of the syringe 1 and the administering of the medicament .

Abstract

La présente invention concerne une seringue (1) pour injecter un médicament. Cette seringue comprend un cylindre (2), un piston (6), qui rend étanche une extrémité du cylindre, ainsi qu'une tige de piston (8), qui permet de déplacer le piston (6) par rapport au cylindre (2). Ladite extrémité du cylindre (2) et l'extrémité de la tige (8) du piston présentent au moins une première butée (13), qui permet de déplacer suffisamment le piston (6) pour amorcer la seringue (1), ainsi que de préférence au moins une seconde butée (14), qui permet de déplacer suffisamment le piston (6) pour éjecter une quantité choisie du médicament. La présente invention concerne également un bloc (10), qui est conçu pour être fixé à ladite extrémité d'un cylindre (2), respectivement d'une tige de piston (8) d'une seringue (1), ainsi qu'une trousse comprenant plusieurs desdits blocs (10).
