Abstract

La présente invention a trait à un système de codage multicouche comprenant au moins une couche comportant une pluralité de sous-couches (272, 274, 276), dans lequel est mis en oeuvre un procédé permettant le codage d'une image vidéo (200) composée d'une pluralité de blocs de pixels contenant au moins une zone destinée à être significative (200, 215, 220) au sein d'une sous-couche correspondante (272, 274, 276). Le procédé comprend les étapes suivantes: l'association d'un niveau de signification à chaque bloc (250, 252) de taille connue au sein de ladite au moins une zone significative (200), l'association d'un niveau de signification à des blocs successivement plus grands (222, 244) selon le niveau de signification d'au moins un des blocs (250, 252) d'une taille connue contenue au sein dudit bloc de taille supérieure (222, 224), et la réalisation d'une table de correspondance des niveaux de signification associés. Dans un autre mode de réalisation de l'invention, la carte de signification est transmise et les couches d'images correspondantes peuvent être reconstruites au moyen de la carte de signification.
