Definitions
- the field of invention refers to electrical engineering, and more precisely to complex electronic systems that enable cashless transfer of money via GSM network.
- the object of invention has been classified and coded by the basic classification symbol GOF 19/00, defining systems for complete banking operations, i.e. devices that are activated by a coded card for delivery or receipt of money etc. and transfer of information on these operations to the existing accounts.
- IPC international patent classification
- Intcl5 the object of invention has been classified and coded by the basic classification symbol GOF 19/00, defining systems for complete banking operations, i.e. devices that are activated by a coded card for delivery or receipt of money etc. and transfer of information on these operations to the existing accounts.
- the subject of invention also provides the reference/parent banks with the data necessary for electronic payment for goods and services, it can aslo be coded by the secondary classification symbol G06F 15/30 referring to equipment for data processing for banking computations.
- the technical problem that is solved by the invention in question is composed of the following: How to design a device to enable cashless transfer of money that can completely substitute the current cash payment, checks and credit cards and, at the same time, make the transaction simple, automated, rapid and safe, as well as to make it feasible in the areas covered by GSM network.
- the first banking system of national importance was the Bank Americard initiated in 1950, while soon new systems were licensed in other states and promptly spread worldwide. As soon as the largest companies started to use credit cards successfully, they organized their respective electronic and computation systems.
- POS point of sale
- POS terminals were construed making it possible for a credit card to be authenticated in less than 15 seconds within the network that covers traders worldwide with the center for credit card processing and credit card issuer.
- wide communication networks have been established to lingk the POS with the computer centers.
- the basic segments of the so-called electronic transfer of money comprise: credit card owner, persons who sells goods/services, POS terminal, bank processing the payment and credit card issuer.
- the invention is a device construed to enable electronic transfer of money by mobile (cellular) phone via GSM network that links the POS for payment with the parent bank.
- the device is a new mobile point of sale (MOBIL POS) that can be easily installed in any sale/service providing facility covered by GSM network.
- MOBIL POS new mobile point of sale
- this design of MOBIL POS combined with a mobile phone makes it possible for the bank provided with appropriate software to communicate with clients and POS device and to carry out the money transfer, i.e. electronic payment for goods and services effectively.
- the device design is simple, portable and presented in the form of a compact housing with GSM modem, keyboard, display and mini printer that enable electronic transfer of money even at places where regular phone lines are not available.
- the essence of the invention is in the fact that protection of the data in the course of electronic transfer is realized via Personal Identification Number (PIN), which is believed, in combination with some other additional protection measures, to be the most effective defense in case of attempted abuse.
- PIN contains the identification number - a hidden code expressed in figures used only for identification of mobile phone owners.
- the client calls the mobile card number integrated in any mobile POS device from his own mobile phone.
- the mobile POS device rejects the call showing the number calling on the display.
- the mobile phone owner confirms that the number on the Mobile POS display is his phone number.
- the mobile phone owners types in his own code that he authenticated with his parent bank where his personal funds are deposited (at least the four figure code).
- the client types in the amount of money he/she wishes to release for payment and transfer to the point of sale.
- the Mobile POS device calls the bank via GSM network to carry out the transaction.
- Mobile POS transfers the data described in points 1 through 5 above.
- the software application installed in the bank checks who the owner of the phone from which the call to Mobile POS was made is and checks if the entered code corresponds to the phone from which the call has been made to the Mobile POS device. If the data entered into the Mobile POS coincide with the data memorized in the software application, the balance on the client's account with the bank is checked. If the amount spent at the point of sale is below the amount available and deposited with the bank on behalf of the mobile phone owner, automatic withdrawal of the amount spent at the point of sale from the client's account takes place on behalf of the point of sale.
- the software application sends the data, via GSM network, related to the owner (first name, family name, phone number, address, time of purchase and name of point of sale) back to the Mobile POS device. 0. Having received confirmation of the transaction and the data described in point 9 above, the
- Mobile POS prints out the certificate on the monetary transaction (the printed data contain all data except the phone number and personal code.)
- the device for electronic transfer of money via GSM network has multiple advantages, the most important being:
- the device is simple, reliable, characterized with modular structure that provides compatibility for integration of new elements that upgrade its hardware and software parts alike;
- Figure 1 shows a simplified scheme of operation of the device for cashless transfer of money via GSM network connected into the system of electronic money transfer between a point of sale and parent bank.
- Figure 2 illustrates the functional diagram of the device for cashless transfer of money via GSM network.
- FIG. 2 illustrates that the device 11 for cashless transfer of money via GSM network is composed of housing 1 where LCD display 2, mini printer 3, GSM module 4, keyboard 6 and micro controller 7 are placed and their power supply is realized via voltage stabilizer 5.
- the elements of the device 11 are linked so that the micro controller 7 (standard type), marked with number Picl ⁇ f 877/874 via the interface RS 232 receives information from the inflow module, keyboard 6 and entry port of GSM module 4, processes the data and then sends the needed information and data also via RS 232 port to the outflow device, LCD display 2, mini printer 3 and outflow part of
- GSM module 4 that subsequently, via antenna 8 enables further sending of the data via GSM network 10 to the bank 12 provided with software applicaton and ability to receive, process and return the processing result again via GSM network 10 to the device 11, i.e. micro controller 7.
- Figures 1 illustrates the mode of functioning of the device 11 for cashless transfer of money via GSM network 10 when it is integrated into the electronic payment system noting that it is not yet complete, since it does not present in detail the operations of financial network relevant for a commercial bank 12 functioning.
