Definitions
- the present invention relates, in general, to disposable blood collectors for medical applications and, more particularly, to a disposable blood collector which is easily, quickly and conveniently used in a blood collection since a needle thereof is triggered to be inserted into a desired site of the body of a patient in response to a compression of the blood collector against the skin of the patient, and which prevents users from being pricked with the needle after use of the blood collector, thus protecting the users including patients, doctors, nurses, and other persons handling the used blood collector, from infection.
- blood collectors are medical instruments that are used for inserting a needle into a desired site of the body of a patient to collect blood for determination of a blood sugar level or for blood grouping.
- the needles of the blood collectors are repeatedly used for blood collections of several patients while being sterilized before every blood collection.
- the needles of the conventional blood collectors are always exposed to the atmosphere, without being covered, so that users including patients, doctors, nurses, and other persons handling the blood collectors may be pricked with the exposed needles during a blood collection or recovering the needles, thus being infected with diseases through blood remaining in the needles. Therefore, it is necessary to provide blood collectors which allow the users to safely perform a blood collection, without fearing infection.
- disposable blood collectors have been proposed and used.
- a needle cap is primarily removed from a needle. Thereafter, the needle is installed in the blood collector, and triggered by manipulating a trigger button of the blood collector. The needle is thus inserted into a desired site of the body of a patient, so that the blood collection is accomplished.
- the conventional disposable blood collectors are problematic in that it is somewhat difficult to use them since users must remove the caps from the needles, and install the needles in the blood collectors before triggering the needles, so that the conventional disposable blood collectors are not convenient or easy to use.
- an object of the present invention is to provide a disposable blood collector for medical applications, which is easily, quickly and conveniently used in a blood collection since a needle thereof is triggered to be inserted into a desired site of the body of a patient in response to a compression of the blood collector against the skin of the patient, and which prevents users from being pricked with the needle after use of the blood collector, thus allowing the users including patients, doctors and nurses to safely use the blood collectors, without fearing infection.
- the present invention provides a disposable blood collector for medical applications, which is comprised of a housing having therein a cavity, with a spring holder extending downward from an upper surface of the cavity, a recess formed at a middle portion of each side surface of the cavity, and a stopper formed at a lower end of each side surface of the cavity; a protective sleeve movably set in the cavity of the housing so as to be moved along the cavity in an axial direction, the sleeve being bent outward at upper portions of both sidewalls thereof, with a first lug formed on an outside surface of each of the outwardly bent upper portions of the sidewalls so as to be inserted into and stopped by the recess of the housing in the case of an upward movement of the sleeve in the cavity of the housing, a second lug formed on an inside surface of each of the outwardly bent upper portions of the sidewalls, and a third lug formed on a middle portion of the outside surface of each of the sidewall

- the blood collector for medical applications includes three parts: a housing 10 having a cavity therein, a blood collecting needle unit 30 having a needle 33, and a protective sleeve 20 which releases the needle unit 30 in response to a compression of the blood collector against the skin of a patient so as to insert the needle 33 into a desired site of the body of a patient.
- the cavity of the housing 10 is opened at a lower end thereof.
- a spring holder 11 extends downward from an upper surface of the cavity to a predetermined length, while a recess 12 is formed at a middle portion of each side surface of the cavity.
- a stopper 13 is formed by being bent inward at a lower end of each side surface of the cavity.
- the spring holder 11 extends downward at the upper surface of the cavity of the housing 10 so as to allow a spring 32 to be fitted over and held by the spring holder 11.
- the recess 12 is formed at the middle portion of each side surface of the cavity of the housing 10 such that the recess 12 has a predetermined depth.
- the protective sleeve 20 is movably set in the cavity of the housing 10 so as to be moved along the cavity in an axial direction.
- the protective sleeve 20 is bent outward at upper portions of both sidewalls thereof, with a first lug 21 formed on an outside surface of each of the outwardly bent upper portions of the sidewalls of the sleeve 20 so as to be inserted into and stopped by the recess 12 when the sleeve 20 is moved upward in the cavity of the housing 10.
- a second lug 22 is formed on an inside surface of each of the outwardly bent upper portions of the sidewalls of the sleeve 20, and holds the needle unit 30.
- a third lug 23 is formed on a middle portion of the outside surface of each of the sidewalls of the sleeve 20 so as to be stopped by the stopper 13 of the housing 10.
- a needle hole 24 is formed at a bottom wall of the sleeve 20 so as to allow the needle 33 of the needle unit 30 to pass through it when the needle 33 is projected from and retracted into the housing 10.
- the first lug 21 is formed on the outside surface of each of the upper portions of the protective sleeve 20, and is inserted into and stopped by the recess 12 of the housing 10 when the sleeve 20 is moved upward in the cavity of the housing 10.
- the second lug 22 is formed on the inside surface of each of the upper portions of the sleeve 20, and holds the needle unit 30.
- the third lug 23 is formed on the middle portion of the outside surface of the sleeve 20, and is stopped by the stopper 13 of the housing 10, so that the sleeve 20 is prevented from being removed from the housing 10.
- the needle hole 24 is formed at the bottom wall of the sleeve 20, so that the needle 33 of the needle unit 30 passes through the needle hole 24 so as to be projected from and retracted into the housing 10.
- the blood collecting needle unit 30 is movably set in a space defined by the cavity of the housing 10 and the protective sleeve 20.
- the blood collecting needle unit 30 is comprised of a needle holder 31 having a stop ring 31a at which the needle holder 31 is held by the second lugs 22 of the sleeve 20.
- the spring 32 is held at an upper end thereof by the spring holder 11 of the housing 10 and at a lower end thereof by the needle holder 31 so as to elastically trigger the needle holder 31.
- the needle 33 is mounted to the needle holder 31 so as to be projected from or retracted into the sleeve 20 through the needle hole 24.
- the needle holder 31 has the stop ring 31a at an upper portion thereof, so that the needle holder 31 is held by the second lugs 22 of the sleeve 20.
- the spring 32 is axially placed between the spring holder 11 of the housing 10 and the upper end of the needle holder 31.
- a compression coil spring is used as the spring 32 since the compression coil spring is easily produced and has high operational efficiency.
- the needle 33 is mounted to a lower end of the needle holder 31 such that one end of the needle 33 is inserted into the needle holder 31 and the other end is projected from the needle holder 31.
- the needle 33 is hollow to allow blood to pass through it.
- the reference numeral 1 denotes a needle cap which covers the needle 33 and must be removed from the needle 33 before starting a blood collection by use of the blood collector.
- a user in order to perform a blood collection by use of the disposable blood collector, a user primarily removes the needle cap 1 from the needle 33 of the blood collector. Thereafter, the user places the blood collector on a desired site of the body of the patient, for example, on the skin of a finger of the patient, while gripping the housing 10 with a users hand, such that the lower end of the protective sleeve 20 is laid on the desired site of the body of the patient. The user slowly presses the housing 10 down, so that the protective sleeve 20 is moved upward relative to the downward moving housing 10 due to a reacting force.
- the third lugs 23 of the sleeve 20 are moved in the same direction from the stoppers 13 of the housing 10.
- the second lugs 22 of the sleeve 20 push the stop ring 31a of the needle holder 31 upward, so that the needle holder 31 having the needle 33 is moved upward while compressing the spring 32 held by the spring holder 11.
- the upper portion of the sleeve 20 having the first lugs 21 is elastically opened outward to allow the first lugs 21 to be inserted into the recesses 12. Therefore, the recesses 12 stop the first lugs 21 of the sleeve 20.
- the stop ring 31a of the needle holder 31 is released from the second lugs 22 of the sleeve 20, so that the needle holder 31 is triggered to be quickly moved downward due to a restoring force of the compressed spring 32.
- the needle 33 of the needle holder 31 is thus quickly projected from the sleeve 20 through the needle hole 24, and is inserted into the desired site of the body of the patient.
- the needle 33 When an external force is removed from the blood collector after the needle 33 is inserted into the desired site of the body of the patient, the needle 33 is elastically removed from the body of the patient and is retracted into the protective sleeve 20. Therefore, it is possible to prevent users from being pricked with the needle 33 after use of the blood collector, while also being impossible to reuse the blood collector.
- the present invention provides a disposable blood collector for medical applications, which is easily, quickly and conveniently used in a blood collection since a needle thereof is triggered to be inserted into a desired site of the body of a patient in response to a compression of the blood collector against the skin of the patient.
- the needle of the disposable blood collector is completely retracted into a' protective sleeve after the blood collection is finished, so that the disposable blood collector almost completely prevents users from being pricked with the needle after use of the blood collector, and thereby allows the users including patients, doctors and nurses to safely use the blood collectors, without fearing infection.
