Abstract

The invention provides a method for printing on PET bottles during the process stage of pre-form blowing. The present method of printing on PET bottles is characteristic in that a pre-form which is pre-heated to the blowing temperature is for a short time subjected in the area of print to the action of a stamp with a temperature lower than the temperature of the heated pre-form or print is sprayed in the form of a material with a high vaporization heat co-efficient and a spraying temperature lower than the temperature of the heated pre-form or it is for a short time subjected in the area of print to the action of a stamp with a temperature lower than the temperature of the heated pre-form, covered with a colouring material, or before the pre-form is heatd print is sprayed in the form of a reflective material, after which the pre-form is always blown and cooled.

Description

PRINTING METHOD FOR PET BOTTLES, WHILE PRINTING / SPRAYING / STAMPING THE PREFORMS BEFORE BLOW MOULDING
The invention provides a printing method to be used for PET bottles at the process stage of pre-form blowing.
So far any printing on PET bottles has been made after the process of pre-form blowing is completed, that is, after a finished bottle is produced. The printing has the form of labels which are made separately from the production stage of the bottle itself. In most cases the labels are made by printing on paper medium or foil and later they are glued to the surface of the bottle.
Other methods of printing directly on the bottle surface are also known where the finished bottle is placed in a piece of equipment whose task it is to place the required printing on its surface.
Other printing methods are also known where printing negatives are placed on the surface of the blow mould.
The purpose of the invention is to develop a method for printing on PET bottles being still semi-finished products, that is, in the form of pre-forms meant for further controlled blowing.
This purpose has been achieved by developing a method for printing on PET bottles characteristic in that a pre-form which is heated up to the blowing temperature is subjected in the area of printing to the momentary action of a stamp with a temperature lower than the heated pre-form or is sprayed with print in the form of a material with a high vaporization heat co-efficient and a spraying temperature lower than the temperature of the heated pre-form or is for a short time subjected in the area of printing to the action of a stamp with a temperature lower than the temperature of the heated pre-form, covered with colouring material, or the pre-form is sprayed before heating with print in the form of a reflective material, after which the pre-form is always blown and cooled.
The advantage of this PET bottle printing method is the fact that the engineering process becomes shorter and cheaper. The method provided by this invention results also in an additional visual effect in the form of plastic relief and bold print in the colour of the plastic material of which the bottle is made and/or in the colour of the paint used, which is possible thanks to the different expansion coefficients of the pre-form material resulting from temperature differences present on the surface of pre-forms.
Example 1 : A pre-form is heated up in a heating stove and then placed in a blow mould and heated up to the blowing temperature. A stamp with a temperature lower than the temperature of the heated pre-form is introduced shortly into the area of printing after which the stamp is withdrawn and the preform is subjected to the process of blowing and cooling.
Example 2: A pre-form is heated up in a heating stove and then placed in a blow mould and heated up to the blowing temperature. A printing device is introduced in the area of printing which is used for applying paint with a temperature lower than the temperature of the pre-form over the surface, after which the printing device is withdrawn and the pre-form itself is subjected to the process of blowing and cooling. Example 3: A pre-form is heated up in a heating stove and then it is placed in a blow mould and heated up to the blowing temperature. For a short time a stamp is introduced in the area of printing. The stamp is covered with a material with a high vaporization heat coefficient. The stamp and the high vaporization heat material have a temperature lower than the temperature of the pre-form. After that the stamp is withdrawn and the pre-form itself is subjected to the process of blowing and cooling.
Example 4: An unheated pre-form is covered with a reflective material after which it is heated in a heating stove and introduced into the blow mould to be subjected to the known process of blowing and cooling.
Example 5: A pre-form previously heated up in a heating stove is subjected to the process of controlled spraying with a high vaporization heat material and then to the process of blowing and cooling.
