- the sequence 1100 begins in step 1102 where the IHP customer's regional telephone company, such as the PSTN 149a, receives a request to route an inbound call to the IHP customer.
- the PSTN 149a determines whether the line 145 is in use (step 1104). If not, the call is completed normally (step 1106).
- step 1104 proceeds to step 1108, which asks whether a call diversion 170 is in place. If not, the PSTN 149a returns a busy signal to the calling party (step 1110). If the IHP customer has implemented the call diversion 170, step 1108 progresses to step 1112. In step 1112, the PSTN 149a requests that the voice gateway 146a accept the call. The voice gateway 146a accepts the call and, in response, proceeds to identify the IHP customer. In one embodiment, the voice gateway 146a determines the called number using the signalling protocol (such as CCSS7) used by the PSTN 149a, and then cross-references the called number against an internal database of IHP customer's IP addresses.

Abstract
Selon l'invention, une combinaison synergique d'un logiciel d'ordinateur personnel existant (PC), d'un nouveau logiciel d'ordinateur personnel et d'un nouveau dispositif de téléphone domestique avec l'Internet permet à des clients d'utiliser un téléphone classique pour établir et recevoir des appels téléphoniques, même lorsque leur ordinateur personnel est connecté à l'Internet. De manière avantageuse, le fonctionnement du téléphone est inchangé, et l'utilisateur peut simultanément utiliser son ordinateur pour naviguer sur le web, télécharger vers l'amont et/ou vers l'aval des fichiers et analogues, sans que la qualité de l'appel téléphonique vocal en soit affectée.
