Description

"RETROVISOR INTERIOR PARA VEHÍCULOS AUTOMÓVILES" "INTERIOR REARVIEW MACHINE FOR AUTOMOBILE VEHICLES"
Sector técnico de la invención. -Technical sector of the invention. -
The object of the invention is an interior rear-view mirror for motor vehicles, in particular an interior rear-view mirror of the type that is mounted superimposed on the interior face of the windshield of the motor vehicle.
Antecedentes de la invención. -Background of the invention. -
Many embodiments of interior mirrors for motor vehicles are known, consisting essentially of a support and a housing to which a mirror is attached. The support is fixed, generally by means of adhesives, to the inner surface of the windshield, while the carcass is coupled to the support by means of a ball joint, all this so that the driver of the vehicle can stably position the carcass, and consequently the mirror, in any position among the usual ones of use, while driving the vehicle.
There are known embodiments of single-piece housings, obtained from polypropylene, in which a perimeter groove adapted to accommodate the edge of the mirror is provided for the assembly of the mirror. For the coupling of the mirror it is necessary that the housing is at a temperature high enough so that the elastic deformation of its front edge can be achieved, in a measure that allows the mirror edge to be located in said groove, and also it is necessary that the groove has the smallest possible dimensions, so that, when the material shrinks by cooling, the material is achieved Proper hold of the mirror. Such requirements have the main drawback that, with relative frequency, the final finish achieved does not meet the precise quality criteria. Embodiments of two-piece housings are also known, consisting of a body-shell and a fastening frame that can be coupled together, obtained from polyamide or ABS (acryl-butadiene-styrene), the mirror being arranged between both pieces. The main drawback of these housings derives from their high production cost.

- In Figs. 1 and 2 the interior rear-view mirror for motor vehicles object of the invention is shown, including, as indicated above, a first embodiment of the means for fixing the mirror. The interior mirror according to the invention comprises a support 1 and a single-piece housing 2 mutually attachable, of which the housing 2 is fixed to a mirror 3.
' the end of which ends in a bend 7 provided with a ball 8, constituting the coupling means with the single-piece housing 2, is extended in one arm 6, as can be seen in Fig. 2. The outer face 9 of the base of attachment 4 is intended to fix the support 1 to the inner face of the windshield of the vehicle, not shown, by applying adhesive material.
The single piece housing 2 adopts the configuration of a hollow body, in which a rear portion 10 and a front portion 11 are distinguished (Fig. 2). The rear portion 10 is preferably of a plastic material, preferably polypropylene, while the front portion is made of elastomer, both portions 10 and 11 being joined, either by melting their constituent materials in the material transition zones, either by application of adhesive material in said areas of material transition, represented by a line indicated with reference 15.
The rear portion 10 is provided with a housing 12 arranged centered with respect to the single-piece housing 2, adapted to adjust the ball 8 of the support 1 with adjustment; With this ball joint arrangement, the support 1 being fixed through its fixing base 4 to the inner face of the windshield, the single-piece housing 2 can be stably placed in any position among the usual ones of use.
On the other hand, the front portion 11 is provided with complementary means for fixing the mirror 3, comprising a perimeter flange 16 directed inward and adapted so that the mirror 3 is arranged under compression between the perimeter flange 16 and the fixing projections 13, which rest on the central portion of the mirror 3 (Fig. 2).
In Fig. 3 the second embodiment of the means for fixing the mirror 3 to the single-piece housing 2 is shown, which differ from those described for the first embodiment by the fact that the rear portion 10 is provided of an inner perimeter thickening 17, arranged immediately next to the line 15 indicative of the material transition zone, replacing the fixing projections 13 described in the first embodiment. With this arrangement, a perimeter fixing groove 18 is configured whose cross section has a general contour of "U", adapted to receive with adjustment the edge 19 of the mirror 3.
The characteristic single-piece housing arrangement 2 of the interior rearview mirror for motor vehicles that is the object of the invention provides an innovative solution to the aforementioned drawbacks of the known embodiments of interior mirrors. Indeed, the one-piece housing arrangement 2 consisting of two materials, polypropylene for the back portion 10 and elastomer for the front portion 11, allows the coupling of the mirror 3 to be carried out with the front portion 11 being at a sufficiently high temperature so that it can be elastically deformed and in a measure that allows the mirror 3 to be coupled to the mono-part housing 2. The elastic properties of the elastomeric material used to obtain the front portion 11 are such that, once the mirror 3 is coupled the single-piece housing 2 and the contraction caused by cooling of the front portion 11, the mirror 3 is fixed to the single-piece housing 2, by the action of the means for fixing the mirror 3 described above, in finishing conditions that comply to the quality criteria required for this type of interior mirrors.
