Abstract

L'invention concerne une fibre optique comprenant une âme biodégradable présentant un indice de réfraction supérieur à celui de son enveloppe ou de sa gaine. Cette fibre optique biodégradable peut être formée à partir d'une variété de matériaux, tels que des matériaux pour sutures transparents, adsorbables, monofibre. La fibre optique peut comprendre un dispositif biodégradable et biocompatible destiné à la connexion avec au moins une autre fibre optique. L'invention concerne également des modes de réalisation portant sur les matériaux utilisés pour former l'âme et la gaine, matériaux biodégradables lorsqu'ils sont activés par la chaleur, l'humidité, le rayonnement électromagnétique, les microbes, les plantes, les animaux et leurs enzymes, fluides ou sécrétions de microbes ou de germes. De nombreuses applications médicales sont fournies, telle que l'inclusion d'agents thérapeutiques intégrés dans la matière de l'âme et/ou de la gaine où ces agents sont libérés une fois que la fibre commence à se dissoudre. Un mode de réalisation de l'invention utilise un milieu présentant un indice de réfraction inférieur, à travers lequel l'âme passe, permettant ainsi une réflexion interne totale.
