Dans le cas d"un signal de télévision analogique, les signaux supplémentaires sont introduits dans l"intervalle vidéo vertical du signal de télévision, avantageusement en tant que signaux télétext. Si le signal de télévision est transmis ou enregistré numériquement, en particulier selon une norme MPEG, les signaux supplémentaires sont introduits dans ce qui est appelé les données_d"utilisateur des entensions_et_données_d"utilisateur de la couche d"images.
