- a seller logs onto central controller 200, creates a VDSO, and then disconnects from the network.
- the VDSO is made available to buyers by posting the VDSO on the web page of central controller 200. Periodic maintenance is performed by central controller 200 to ensure that active VDSOs have not expired.
- Central controller 200 contacts the seller to indicate that a conglomerate of buyers has formed eligible for a volume discount according to the VDSO.

If less security is required, the user's telephone number could serve as the ID number since it has the advantages of being both unique and easily remembered. If additional security is required, cryptographic procedures may be implemented.

If not, then at step 1485, the buyer's purchase request 110 is refused and returned to buyer. Otherwise, at step 1486 payment processor 230 submits to the clearinghouse pre-authorization of the value of the buyer's commitment to the VDSO 100. This serves to "lock up" a portion of the available credit on the buyer's credit card to cover the cost of his commitment to the VDSO 100 as long as the VDSO 100 is still active. A unique tracking number is added to buyer purchase request 110 at step 1490. Central controller 200 then stores buyer purchase request 110 in buyer purchase request database 270 at step 1492 and in conglomerate database in step 1493.
- step 1494 the new aggregate commitment of the conglomerate at each price level is calculated.
- central processor 200 determines whether the aggregate commitment at any price level of the VDSO is within the transaction volume range of that level. If so, the seller and buyers are notified in step 1496. The status of the VDSO is changed to "completed" preventing subsequent buyers from joining VDSO 100.
- the credit card account of each of the buyers in the conglomerate is debited at step 1497 for the value of each buyer's transaction and the payments transferred to the seller's account.
