Abstract

Disclosed is a moving picture providing method and system using an Internet messenger. When moving picture outline information including formats, categories and update periods of information established by a subscriber is input, requested moving picture outline information is extracted, transmitted to a subscriber computer system, and then stored in the subscriber computer system. When an update request signal of the moving picture information is input while the stored moving picture outline information is reproduced, the updated moving picture outline information is extracted and transmitted to the subscriber computer system. When there is a buy request on the corresponding moving picture information provided by the subscriber computer system while the updated moving picture outline information is reproduced, the subscriber computer system is automatically linked to a corresponding moving picture providing source. Therefore, the subscriber establishes and requests desired moving picture information to be provided via the Internet, stores corresponding moving picture information in the subscriber computer system, and displays the same on the Internet messenger, and thereby the user can watch the stored moving picture information without the Internet.

Method for Providing Moving Pictures Using Internet Messenger and

System for Reproducing Same

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

(a) Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to a method and system for providing

moving pictures on the Internet. More specifically, the present invention

relates to a method for providing moving pictures using an Internet

messenger and a system for reproducing the same.

(b) Description of the Related Art

In general, users transmit and receive text messages to/from friends

or acquaintances by using Internet messengers or instant messengers on

the Internet.

Service providers such as ICQ, AIM, Soft messenger and Internet

pal provide text messaging and chatting services.

However, as the number of Internet netizens has greatly increased

and those who desire various kinds of information that changes moment by

moment have also increased, conventional Internet messengers have not

been able to satisfy the netizens.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

It is an object of the present invention to provide a moving picture

providing method using an Internet messenger for providing various moving

pictures. In one aspect of the present invention, in an information providing

method using a network messenger installed in a subscriber computer

system for activating transmission and receipt of messages on the network, a

moving picture information providing method using a network messenger

comprises the steps of: (a) receiving, via the network, moving picture outline

request information including formats, categories and update period of

moving pictures information established by a subscriber, and extracting the

requested moving picture outline information; (b) transmitting the extracted

moving picture outline information and corresponding additional information

to the subscriber computer system, and storing the same in the subscriber

computer system; and (c) automatically linking to a site that provides moving

picture information of a full version moving picture when there is a buy

request for the full version moving picture of the moving picture outline

information provided by the subscriber computer system while the stored

moving picture outline information is reproduced.

The step (c) further comprises a step of extracting the updated

moving picture outline information, and transmitting corresponding additional

information to the subscriber computer system when there is an update

request signal for the moving picture outline information provided by the

subscriber computer system while the stored moving picture outline

information is reproduced.

In another aspect of the present invention, in an information

providing system using a network messenger installed in a subscriber

computer system for activating transmission and receipt of messages on the -, network, a moving picture information providing system using a network

messenger comprises a subscriber computer system comprising a display,

a storage device, a subscriber instruction input unit, and a client unit,

checking formats, categories, and update periods of moving picture outline

information, outputting a request signal for corresponding outline information,

receiving a response signal, and storing and displaying the same, and a

system manager, when receiving the request signal for the moving picture

outline information, extracting moving picture outline information

corresponding to the request signal, providing extracted moving picture

outline information and corresponding additional information to the

subscriber computer system, and providing updated moving picture outline

information to the subscriber computer system, the moving picture outline

information being updated as an update request signal is input, and when

there is a buy request for the full version information of the corresponding

moving picture provided by the subscriber computer system, automatically

linking to a source that provides full version information

The system manager comprises a moving picture outline

information database storing moving picture outline information and

additional information including information that automatically links to an

information providing source that provides the moving picture outline

information, and a moving picture information providing server receiving

formats and categories of the moving picture information provided by the

subscriber computer system, extracting moving picture outline information on

corresponding moving picture information from the moving picture outline information database, providing the extracted information to the subscriber

computer system, and when there is a buy request signal on the

corresponding moving picture information provided by the subscriber

computer system, checking whether the subscriber is authenticated, and

when the subscriber is authenticated, providing corresponding information.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

In the following detailed description, only the preferred embodiment

of the invention has been shown and described, simply by way of illustration

of the best mode contemplated by the inventor(s) of carrying out the

invention. As will be realized, the invention is capable of modification in

various obvious respects, all without departing from the invention.

Accordingly, the drawings and description are to be regarded as illustrative in

nature, and not restrictive.

FIG. 1 shows a moving picture providing system using an Internet

messenger according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention;

As shown, the Internet messenger using a moving picture providing

system comprises a subscriber computer system 100 and a system manager

200.

The subscriber computer system 100 comprises a client unit 110, a

subscriber order input unit 120, a memory 130 and a display unit 140.

In detail, when the client unit 110 outputs a moving picture request

signal to the subscriber order input unit 120, the moving picture request

signal is transmitted to the system manager 200 via an Internet service

provider (ISP) and the Internet, and the client unit 110 receives a response

signal and stores the response signal in the memory 130 and displays stored moving pictures to the display unit 140.

The system manager 200 comprises a moving picture outline

information database 210 and a moving picture providing server 220. The

system manager 200 provides the corresponding moving picture information

5 to the client unit 1 10 according to the moving picture request signals

provided by the subscriber computer system 100.

In detail, the moving picture outline information database 210 stores

first moving picture information and automatic link information linking to the

information providing site, such as additional information including a uniform

lo resource locator (URL). At this time, the first moving picture information

includes abstract information and preview information for a subscriber to

easily understand the corresponding information, and to buy the same.

For example, in the case the moving picture information to be

provided is a movie, the moving picture information that most effectively

i s describes the corresponding movie is provided to the subscriber computer

system 100, and when a request signal for a preview is provided by the

subscriber computer system 100, second moving picture information that is

more detailed than the first moving picture information can be provided to the

subscriber computer system 100.

using an Internet messenger at a system manager according to a preferred

embodiment of the present invention.

As shown in FIGs. 1 and 2, an Internet messenger program for

providing moving picture information on the Internet according to a subscriber's request is provided in step S1 10.

It is checked whether settings of forms or categories of the moving

pictures to be provided are completed and input by the subscriber computer

system 100 that drives the established Internet messenger program in step

S1 15, and when the set forms or categories are input, the requested moving

picture information is extracted from the moving picture outline information

database 210 in step S120.

The extracted moving picture information and corresponding

additional information is transmitted to the client unit 1 10 of the subscriber

computer system 100 in step S125.

It is checked whether an update request signal is input by the

subscriber computer system 100 in step S130, and when the signal is input,

the updated moving picture information is extracted from the moving picture

outline information database 210 in step S135, and the extracted moving

picture information and corresponding additional information is transmitted to

the subscriber computer system 100 in step S140.

It is checked whether a signal for requesting a buy is input by the

subscriber computer system 100 in step S145, and when the signal is input,

it is checked whether the subscriber is authenticated in step S150.

When the subscriber is authenticated, a buy allowance message is

provided to the subscriber computer system 100 in step S155, and when the

subscriber is not authenticated, a buy prohibition message is provided to the

subscriber computer system 100 in step S160. At this time, in the step of

checking the authentication states of the subscriber at the system manager 200, a number of a credit card and a password provided by the subscriber

are checked, and the authentication process will not be described since the

authentication process is prior art.

It is obvious that the sites or homepages automatically linked and

accessed by the system manager can provide detailed outline information on

the subscriber^'s desired products.

FIG. 2 shows an example for the system manager to perform

electronic commerce according to a direct request by a client, and as

another example, performance of the electronic commerce can be separated

to automatically link to the web sites or homepages providing the

corresponding moving picture information.

FIG. 3 shows a flow chart for a moving picture providing method

using an Internet messenger at a subscriber^'s computer system according to

a preferred embodiment of the present invention.

As shown in FIGs. 1 and 3, the subscriber computer system 100

receives the Internet messenger program from the system manager 200 in

step S210 and drives the same to display the same on a predetermined

screen of the display unit 140 in step S215.

Formats, categories and update periods of the moving pictures to be

provided by the system manager 200 are established in step S220, and the

established formats and categories are requested to the system manager

200 in step S225. At this time, the formats can be either moving pictures,

images or text, and the categories can be either dramas, advertisements, televisions, movies, weather, traffics or stocks which can be provided by the

system manager 200

It is checked whether the moving picture information requested by

the system manager 200 is received in step S230, and if the moving picture

information is received, the moving picture information and additional

information is stored in the memory 130 in step S235, and the stored moving

picture information is displayed on a predetermined part of the Internet

messenger in step S240

It is checked whether operations provided by the subscriber such as

instructions caused by manipulations of a keyboard or a mouse are input in

step S245, and when the operations are input, it is checked whether the

update period is an established one in step S250

When the update period is the established one, an update request

signal is transmitted to the system manager 200 in step S255, and the step

returns to step S230, and when the update period is not the established one,

the step returns to step S245

When the operations provided by the subscriber is not input in the

previous step S245, an automatic connection to the corresponding web sites

or homepages that provide detailed information is executed to check whether

the connection is completed in steps S260 and S265 When the connection

to the corresponding sites or homepages is not executed, it returns to the

step S260, and when the connection is executed, it goes to a general

electronic commerce step S270

FIG 4 shows a detailed flow chart for an electronic commerce step of FIG. 3

As shown, a preview is displayed in step S275, and buy

information is displayed in step S280, and it is checked whether a buy

request is provided in step S285

When the buy request is provided in the previous step S285, the

subscriber's authentication state is checked in step S290, and when the

subscriber is authenticated, a general buy process is performed in step S300,

and when the subscriber is not authenticated, a transaction-disabled

message is displayed in step S305

When the buy request is not provided in the previous step S285, a

termination state is checked in step S290, and when it is not terminated, it

goes to the previous step S275

FIG 5 shows a display of an Internet messenger according to a

preferred embodiment of the present invention

As shown, the Internet messenger screen is preferably displayed on

the top right of a monitor, and the subscriber can receive moving picture

information established by the subscriber and displayed on the top of the

Internet messenger

The above-noted Internet messenger concurrently performs general

Internet messenger functions such as chatting with netizens, sending notes

to predetermined persons, searching desired web sites linked with the

Internet messenger by clicking a web search function displayed on the

Internet messenger, and accessing the searched web site

FIG 6 shows an environment-setting screen displayed when a subscriber clicks a menu button

As shown, the subscriber can select desired moving picture

information, that is, a multimedia screen on the Internet messenger screen

displayed on the monitor of the subscriber's computer system, and also

select the update period

As described above, when the subscriber receives the Internet

messenger, the subscriber can select the formats or categories of desired

moving picture information and vary the update period of the selected

information

If the subscriber is interested in information previously stored in the

memory and now displayed while he is doing his job, he can access the

corresponding site according to manipulation of the mouse or keyboard to

get more detailed information, and if he desires to buy products, he can get

corresponding information on-line or off-line

The system manager that manages the Internet messenger program

according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention can update

various kinds of information desired by the subscriber and provide the same

in real-time, and when the subscriber requests a buy, the system manager

authenticates the subscriber and then provides information At this time, if

the moving picture information provided to the subscriber is a movie preview

the system manager receives the previews from movie companies and

provides the same to the subscribers to get advertisement income, and when

a subscriber desires a full version movie, the system manager can provide

the movie via general electronic commerce As noted-above, the subscriber requests desired moving picture

information via the Internet, and stores moving picture information in the

subscriber computer system, and displays the same on the Internet

messenger so that the subscriber can watch the stored moving picture

without the Internet

Also, the system manager transmits information requested by the

subscriber in real-time, and when the subscriber desires to buy the

corresponding information, the system manager provides the corresponding

information to the subscriber computer system via on-line, mail or express

delivery services

While this invention has been described in connection with what is

presently considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiment, it is

to be understood that the invention is not limited to the disclosed

embodiments, but, on the contrary, is intended to cover various modifications

and equivalent arrangements included within the spirit and scope of the

appended claims

Claims

WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:

1 In an information providing method using a network messenger,

installed in a subscriber computer system, for activating transmission and

receipt of messages on the network, a moving picture information providing

method using a network messenger, comprising the steps of

(a) receiving, via the network, moving picture outline request

information including formats, categories and update period of moving

pictures information established by a subscriber, and extracting the

requested moving picture outline information,

(b) transmitting the extracted moving picture outline information

and corresponding additional information to the subscriber computer system,

and storing the same in the subscriber computer system, and

(c) automatically linking to a site that provides moving picture

information of a full version moving picture when there is a buy request for

the full version moving picture of the moving picture outline information

provided by the subscriber computer system while the stored moving picture

outline information is reproduced

2 The method of claim 1 , wherein the step (c) further comprises a

step of extracting the updated moving picture outline information, and

transmitting corresponding additional information to the subscriber computer

system when there is an update request signal for the moving picture outline

information provided by the subscriber computer system while the stored

moving picture outline information is reproduced

3 The method of claim 1 , wherein categories of the moving picture information comprise dramas, advertisements, television, movies, news,

weather, traffics and stocks

4 The method of claim 1 , wherein information provided to the

subscriber comprises full version moving picture information provided on-line,

full version image information, a recording medium that stores the moving

picture information and can be read by the computer system, a book, or a

product having a predetermined shape

5 In an information providing system using a network messenger,

installed in a subscriber computer system, for activating transmission and

receipt of messages on the network, a moving picture information providing

system using a network messenger, comprising

a subscriber computer system comprising a display, a storage

device, a subscriber instruction input unit, and a client unit, checking formats,

categories, and update periods of moving picture outline information,

outputting a request signal for corresponding outline information, receiving a

response signal, and storing and displaying the same, and

a system manager, when receiving the request signal for the

moving picture outline information, extracting moving picture outline

information corresponding to the request signal, providing extracted moving

picture outline information and corresponding additional information to the

subscriber computer system, and providing updated moving picture outline

information to the subscriber computer system, the moving picture outline

information being updated as an update request signal is input, and when

there is a buy request on the full version information of the corresponding moving picture provided by the subscriber computer system, automatically

linking to a source that provides full version information

6 The system of claim 5, wherein the subscriber computer system

automatically outputs an update request signal of moving picture outline

information as the update period expires

7 The system of claim 5, wherein the system manager comprises

a moving picture outline information database storing moving

picture outline information and additional information including information

that automatically links to an information providing source that provides the

moving picture outline information, and

a moving picture information providing server receiving formats

and categories of the moving picture information provided by the subscriber

computer system, extracting moving picture outline information on

corresponding moving picture information from the moving picture outline

information database, providing the extracted information to the subscriber

computer system, and when there is a buy request signal on the

corresponding moving picture information provided by the subscriber

computer system, checking whether the subscriber is authenticated, and

when the subscriber is authenticated, providing corresponding information

comprise moving pictures, images or text

9 The system of claim 5, wherein the categories of the information

comprise either dramas, advertisements, television, movies, news, weather,

traffics or stocks

10. The system of claim 5, wherein the corresponding information

provided to the subscriber computer system comprises full version moving

picture information provided on-line, full version image information, a

recording medium that stores the moving picture information and can be

read by the computer system, a book, or a product having a predetermined

shape.
