Abstract

L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif permettant d'utiliser un appareil ou une interface de transmission ionique entre une source ionique et un spectromètre. L'appareil de transmission ionique peut comprendre un ensemble de tiges multipolaires, et il comporte un gaz d'amortissement permettant d'amortir l'étalement spatial et énergétique d'ions émanant d'une source ionique à impulsions. L'ensemble de tiges multipolaires guide les ions le long d'un trajet ionique, de manière à diriger ces ions vers l'entrée d'un spectromètre de masse. L'invention s'applique en particulier aux sources ioniques de type MALDI (à désorption/ionisation laser de type matriciel), qui produisent un petit jet supersonique d'ions et de molécules de type matriciel. Ce jet, sensiblement non directionnel, peut comporter des ions évoluant dans toutes les directions disponibles depuis la source et ayant une large gamme d'étalement énergétique. L'appareil de transmission ionique peut engendrer différents effets, à savoir entre autres : étalement sensible des ions produits, le long d'un axe ionique, pour engendrer un faisceau quasi-continu; réduction de l'étalement énergétique des ions émis depuis la source; et suppression au moins partielle de la fragmentation non désirée des ions d'analysat. En conséquence, un certain nombre d'impulsions ioniques peuvent être fournies à l'analyseur de temps de vol ou autre spectromètre, pour chaque cycle de la production ionique.
