Definitions

  • a cord connecting device for Venetian blinds and the like is provided.
  • the invention relates to a cord connecting device for pull cords for Venetian blinds and the like, comprising a hollow body in two parts with a first opening consisting of part openings m each part of the body, behind which cord ends supplied with knots are retained.
  • Traditional cord connecting devices consist of a knot on the pull cords which are hidden m a hollow shell. Following accidents where children have been strangulated after having put their necks m the noose created by such traditional cord connecting devices, types have been developed where the cords are connected by the hollow shell itself. It is desired that a cord connecting device shall separate by pulling, but it is difficult to obtain a suitable compromise between the force with which the shell shall stay closed with a view to normal use, and the force which shall cause a separation. In particular where it is desired to let a mutual pull cord come from the cord connecting device the requirements are contradictory.
  • each body part at a distance from the first opening has means directed towards each other, each of which carry slits for retaining the knot-shaped ends of the pull cords, which means hold the hollow body together by interlocking, m that the influence of the pull cords on the part openings separate the interlocking.
  • the knots are held inside the cord connecting device so that no forces are transmitted to the shell during normal use. Not until it is attempted to separate the cords, which will occur when something is wedged, will forces be created in the shell parts whereby they separate and the knots are liberated.
  • An advantageous embodiment is particular in that a further cord is taken through a second opening m such a manner that it holds together the the means directed towards each other, so that a pull m the further cord causes the two parts to be held against each other with an increased force.
  • activation by pulling the pull cord causes a force which dicrectly holds the two parts together, the stronger, the stronger the pull in the pull cord, but the possibility of separation and the force required is not influenced thereby.
  • a further advantageous embodiment is particular m that the means directed towards each other are plate shaped, and that holes m the plates are m register when assembled, and m that the slits are disposed between the edges of the plates and the insides of the parts.
  • This embodiment is a practical solution, which only requires that the further cord is taken through the holes and is supplied with a knot on the upper side of the two plates.

  • each shell part On the inner side each shell part has a plate-shaped protrusion 3, 4 which are displaced with respect to each other and parallel when assembled.
  • Two further plate parts have been provided above the plate 3, and the the lowermost has a depression on its upper side which cooperates with a corresponding projection on the lower side of the plate 4, so that the two half shells are held to become one by means of a snap action.
  • This snap action connection may be solved m various ways, only must the force required for separation be held suitably low.
