Definitions
- the present invention relates to the field of absorbent papers for sanitary or domestic use, and relates to a sheet, consisting of at least one embossed fold, intended for the production of toilet paper essentially but also of handkerchiefs, napkins or possibly of paper towels.
- a generally creped absorbent paper of low grammage, designated: cellulose wadding or cotton wool.
- cellulose wadding or cotton wool we take advantage of the elongation capacity of the structure, conferred for example by creping, to emboss the sheet.
- This operation consists in deforming the latter permanently between a non-deformable cylinder provided with reliefs and a counter-cylinder, for example with resilient coating. Protrusions are thus obtained on one side corresponding to cavities on the other side.
- embossing operation is carried out either on paper with high humidity, that is to say in the wet part of the paper machine, or on paper with low humidity, ie ie in transformation.
- the present invention relates to paper transformed into a dry part.
- the solution presented in application FR 94 15196 makes it possible to improve the smoothness of a double-ply sheet with this type of embossing, by producing a combined pattern, comprising a graphic pattern and a background pattern.
- the first consists of protuberances whose shape is linear with a width of between 0.1 and 2 mm, and the second comprises small generally frustoconical protuberances distributed at a rate of at least 30 per cm 2 .
- the folds are combined on the linear pattern, thus limiting the extent of the surfaces glued together and the stiffening induced.
- the protrusions of the background pattern should bring out the main pattern as they are not easily visible individually to the naked eye due to their necessary small size.
- the graphic pattern which is embossed on the cylinder comes to bear on the embossing rubber like the pins of the background pattern.
- the pins of the background pattern by their small size being more embossing than those of the graphic pattern, it follows a weaker definition of the marking for the latter.
- the required embossing conditions lead to a deterioration of the properties of the sheet, in particular its resistance, both on the edges of the pattern itself and on the shading. They also lead to a deterioration of the operating conditions, for example to a degradation of the rubber coatings.
- the proportion of embossed surface according to the background pattern is largely in the majority: 80% of the surface in practice. It is he who provides most of the functional characteristics related to embossing, namely thickness and absorption.
- the high load exerted between the engraving and the rubber counterpart is thus distributed over a large number of elements. This therefore reduces local constraints and the risk of tearing the sheet.
- the load is also distributed substantially isotropically on the sheet, which limits the risks of creating fracture lines.
- the subject of the invention is a sheet of embossed absorbent paper having a more elaborate pattern than a simple weft pattern without the use of linear protrusions.
- the object of the invention is also to ensure uniform marking and good definition of the pattern.
- the subject of the invention is also a sheet of embossed absorbent paper, with two or more folds, the embossing pattern of which allows the flexibility of the folds to be best preserved after association.
- the subject of the invention is also a sheet of embossed absorbent paper having characteristics of thickness and resistance of the same order as those of a sheet whose embossing is uniformly distributed and uniformly greater than 30 protuberances per cm 2 .
- a sheet of absorbent paper in particular in creped cellulose wadding, of grammage between 10 and 40 g / m 2 , comprising on one side of the first surface protuberances at the top less than 1 mm 2 , corresponding to cavities on the other face, is characterized in that said protuberances are distributed at a rate of more than 30 per cm 2 along parallel lines between them, so as to delimit cells whose total surface occupies at least 30%, preferably at least 50% of the surface of the sheet, these cells themselves being not or only slightly embossed.
- a cell is a portion of surface of the sheet surrounded by parallel lines of the first protuberances and themselves having 30% of non-screened areas.
- the shape of these cells is arbitrary but preferably it is geometric.
- the lines defining them can cross to draw a grid, but the cells can also be disjoint.
- a sheet whose embossing was thus defined had the same characteristics of thickness and resistance as a sheet having an embossing composed of the same elements, distributed uniformly over its entire surface at a higher uniform density. This is particularly advantageous when it is desired to produce a sheet with several plies thus embossed because the non-uniform distribution allows a partial connection of the plies together. This results in greater flexibility.
- Calendering results from the action of the rubber of the counter-cylinder on the sheet when it rests on the surface of the cylinder between the pins. Calendering makes the sheet smoother by eliminating roughness. It therefore improves the perception of softness. This is further improved if the calendered area is sufficiently large to the touch. For this reason, advantage is taken of the solution of the invention if the portions of calendared surface are at least 1 cm 2 . This corresponds to the contact surface of the fingers with the sheet.
- the first protuberances are distributed along at least three lines when the cells are adjacent. Indeed, a lower number is likely to form preferential breaking lines.
- the lines are wavy. This further reduces the risk of the formation of minimum resistance lines.
- the sheet includes second protrusions inside the cells.
- they are isolated protuberances.
- the protuberances are grouped so as to provide sub-cells of sufficient size so that during the embossing the rubber is likely to come to touch the bottom of the etching and thus ensure the calendering of the sheet at this location.
- These second protuberances are advantageously arranged in unit lines parallel to the edges of the cells. These protrusions in no case occupy more than 15% of the surface of the cell.
- the first protrusions define at least 5 cells per coupon, preferably 15 to 20.
- the second protrusions between them or between them and the first protrusions at most 100 sub-cells.
- a coupon is the portion of the sheet which is detached along a line precut transversely in a roll of toilet paper for example.
- the cells are not adjacent.
- the space between the cells can then be occupied by a screened area.
- This screened area being preferably with a different embossing density than that of the first protuberances.
- the sheet constitutes at least one fold of a multi-ply sheet.
- a partial connection mode is authorized and a more flexible multi-ply product is obtained.
- FIG. 1 represents a top view of an embossed sheet in accordance with the invention.
- Figure 2 is a graph showing the relationship between strength and thickness for a product of the prior art and a product according to the invention.
- the sheet shown is a sheet of creped cellulose wadding with a basis weight between 10 and 40 g / m 2 .
- the points represent protrusions on one side and cavities on the opposite side. These protuberances were obtained by deforming the sheet between an element, such as a cylinder, with a rigid surface and a counterpart, such as a cylinder with a resilient coating, for example of rubber.
- the rigid surface has reliefs arranged according to the pattern which it is desired to obtain on the cellulose wadding sheet.
- the shape of spikes is frustoconical and have a circular, oval or polygonal cross section.
- the motif shown is composed of juxtaposed cells delimited by multiple rows of first protuberances arranged in cross-pieces.
- the diamond-shaped cell C is defined by triple rows B1, B2, B3 of protuberances. We observe that these rows have a wavy shape.
- the first protrusions are arranged so that the local density of the protrusions is greater than 30 per cm 2 . Preferably, it is greater than 60 per cm 2 . They have a surface at the top less than 1 mm 2 .
- the number of rows or lines is at least three when delimiting adjacent cells.
- cell C is not embossed or else has non-embossed zones delimited by second protuberances of the isolated type I.
- these isolated protuberances form lines parallel to the edges of the cells and divide them into 9 sub-cells.
- the pattern of the prior art consists of protuberances uniformly distributed along, for example, rows oriented substantially in the direction of travel and arranged in staggered rows, at the rate of 80 protuberances per cm 2 .
- the surface at the top of the embossing pins is 4.4 mm 2 .
- the motif occupies 100% of the surface.
- the motif of the invention tested is that shown in FIG. 1.
- the average number of protuberances is 25 per cm 2 .
- the density rises to 60 protuberances per cm 2 .
- the protuberances occupy 20%) of the surface of the sheet; in other words, all of the sub-cells occupy 80% of the surface.
- the imprint is the width of the mark of the rigid cylinder on the rubber cylinder. For the same quality of rubber, this value depends on the pressure exerted. The larger the footprint, the higher the pressure.
- the value 0 of the imprint indicates the characteristics of the sheet before embossing.
