Definitions
- the invention relates to a method and an apparatus for the exchange of signaling information between radio base stations in a mobile radio system ⁇ .
- the coverage area into individual radio cells is divided, which are radio technology supplied by each ⁇ wells a base station.
- the participants in a radio cell tion by means of radio channels on the Basissta- - and from the latter via lines, and switches (Mobile Switching Center MSC) participants with another part ⁇ - for example, a fixed network subscriber - associated.
- the Rebookings - or handover - the switching a Kom ⁇ munikations ist - for example, a call - to a different radio path.
- the mobile station ⁇ a serving base station can ver ⁇ that this mobile station serving base station hands the mobile station to another - appropriate - base station.
- the handover is thus caused by the periodicity of the system and is becoming more important with smaller radio cell sizes.
- the number of radio cells could be increased, which would make the handover even more important.
- the subscriber may be necessary to change the radio cell - i.e. a handover or rebooking of the mobile station - especially if a high bit error rate or poor transmission quality is determined if there is a low reception level if there is a large distance from the serving base station exists when there is a high traffic load in the current radio cell or when the vehicle speed is 2 times changes.

- rapidly moving mobile stations or subscribers are transferred into the macro cell layer in hierarchical cells.
- the subscriber terminal i.e. the mobile station (MS) carries out level measurements on the frequencies of the broadcast control channel (BCCH) of the neighboring base stations.
- BCCH broadcast control channel
- the location of these frequencies is communicated to the mobile station by the base station via signaling channels.
- the measured reception level is sent from the mobile station to the base station serving it, which evaluates it and then takes it into account in a handover decision.
- variables such as the load and the interference situation of the neighboring radio cells can be taken into account for the handover decision.
- These sizes change dynamically and are passed on from the individual base stations to the base station serving the mobile station.
- This information is currently transmitted via signaling channels on the lines that connect the base stations or base station systems.
- Such a procedure is defined in the GSM standard.
- GSM Global System for Mobile communications
- the object of the present invention is therefore to specify a method and a device for exchanging signaling information between base stations in a mobile radio system, in which the information exchange between different base stations can take place more efficiently.
- This object is achieved by the method and the device according to the independent claims. Further advantageous refinements are specified in the dependent claims.
- the object is exchange achieved by a method for extending ⁇ signaling information between base stations in a mobile radio system, in which when transferring a mobile station assigns a serving base station conces-, to another base station, the decision to transfer posting on the basis of currentPowersinformatio ⁇ NEN is met by other base stations via their radio cells, this status information about the radio cells of the further base stations being received by the mobile station or other mobile stations in the radio cell and passed on to the serving base station.
- the transfer posting is efficient because the involved Basissta ⁇ tions the load information no longer lines and several other network elements such as MSC, have trans- ferred, since the mobile station approximately exchange regarding the signaling quasi as a relay station between the individual base stations acts.
- the signal exchange can then take place directly from a first base station to a second base station via the mobile station.
- the status information contains information about load and / or interference situation and / or used frequencies for traffic channels and / or reception levels. In this way it is ensured that the transmitted status information includes the information that is required for the selection of a suitable new base station for the handover.
- a method in which the status information from the mobile station in a specific 4th rhythm is decoded. This can ensure that the information is updated in predetermined cycles and in this way a historical course of the status information can also be obtained. This means that even more detailed and extensive information can be used as a basis for the handover decision.
- Such periodic decoding can be carried out analogously to the current decoding of the BS identifier BSIC.
- a method in which the status information is transported from the mobile station to the serving base station in parallel with other signaling actions and / or is transported continuously during the connection and / or when requested by a base station, in particular by the serving base station.
- the status information can be transported via already existing signaling channels.
- it can be advantageous to transport the status information continuously - preferably at a low rate - during the connection via the Slow Associated Control Channel (SACCH).
- SACCH Slow Associated Control Channel
- a method in which a signaling channel, in particular a BCCH or a SACCH, is used for connecting the mobile station and the base stations.
- This signaling channel is preferably set up for this. It can also be considered to use the BCCH for this.

- FIG. 2 shows in three phases (a, b and c) how the handover decision is made in the initial case of FIG. 2.
- phase a in which the serving base station 12 of the mobile station 14 sends the information about the position of the signaling channels of the base stations 22 and 32
- the mobile station 14 then receives current information about the state from the base stations 22, 32 7 in the radio cells 20, 30 of the adjacent base stations 22, 32 (arrows A * 'and A'''). This information is preferably transmitted to the base stations on the corresponding signaling channels and contains information about load, interference situation and frequencies used for traffic channels in the corresponding radio cells 20, 30.
- phase b in which the mobile station 14 transmits the received status information of the neighboring base stations 22, 32 to the base station 12 serving them
- Such a transmission is preferably initiated after decoding of the received status information by the mobile station 14. It can be carried out in parallel with signaling actions, continuously or when requested by the base station 12 operating it.
- phase c shows phase c), in which the base station 12 made a handover decision in favor of the base station 32 on the basis of the transmitted status information.
- the base station 32 is now informed about the handover by the base station 12 and takes over the supply for the mobile station 14.
- the method according to the invention is preferably also used for dynamic channel or frequency allocation.
- a radio cell can select the optimal channels or frequencies from the information about the channels or frequencies used in the neighboring radio cells when an assignment is pending.
- the mobile stations present in the radio cells preferably function as a relay station between the base stations.
- the signaling load per mobile station can be kept low when there are many mobile stations in one radio cell.
- the corresponding signaling on the lines that connect the individual network elements or between the individual base stations can be omitted. Interfaces that are not required for the actual radio network are thus relieved of messages specific to the radio network. Changes in the signaling between the base stations then no longer affect the switching centers.
- a third generation mobile radio system is e.g. UMTS, which uses CDMA and TDMA transmission methods.
