Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method and an arrangement for restricting the mobility of a subscriber in a cordless telecommunications system, which comprises fixed parts, each associated with access right identities, and at least one portable part having a portable access right key and an international portable user identity, particularly in a DECT
- PARK Bit Access Eights Key
- IPUI International Eortable User identity
- the IPUI is used to identify the portable part within its validity domain. It can be locally unique with a validity domain restricted to one or more fixed parts, e.g. within a PABX
- the domain restrictions are defined by the PARK, i.e. a portable part is allowed to access a fixed part only if it can identify one of that fixed part's identities, which are known as ARI's (Access Eight Identities).
- the PARK may identify a group of ARI's as it is specified as PARK ⁇ n ⁇ , where n is the value of the PARK length indicator given in the subscription process of the portable part. The identification is performed using the first n bits of the ARI's. If the length of the PARK and the ARI is m bits the maximum number of fixed parts a portable part with a PARK ⁇ n ⁇ can have access to is equal to 2 m_n .
- m is equal to 36 bits for access right class A and 31 bits for access right classes B-D.
- a low number of the PARK length indicator would in particular be useful in a public environment, such as a DECT-based PSTN/CTM network .
- a subscriber may be able to manipulate the PARK and the PARK length indicator of his portable part and consequently roam into domains of radio fixed parts where he does not have access to.
- the standard DECT examination will not detect this manipulation .
- the object of the invention is to get a safer restriction system in a cordless telecommunications system, in particular in a DECT based PSTN/CTM network, which will detect a fraud as described above .
- the information of the access right domain for each IPUI is preferably stored in a location data base in the network's local exchange, but it may also be stored in an external data base.
- the access right domain may be defined either as the domain of one or several fixed parts or as the domain of one or several location areas.
- the checking may be performed at a handover, at a location update or during the setup of an originating call .
- Two access right domains for the portable part are defined in one preferred embodiment of the invention; one that is to be used at checking in case of a location update, which always take part when activating the portable part, and the other to be used in case of an originating call, the latter access right domain preferably being a subset of the former.
- Possibilities to restrict the portable part from initiating originating calls to particular portable parts, such as portable parts temporarily or permanently being located within a certain domain may likewise be included in the invention.
- the method and arrangement according to the invention give rise to a safer restriction system, which easily detects manipulations of the PARK length indicator.
- An advantage of the invention is that it is simple and straightforward to implement.
- a further advantage of the invention is that the access right domain may be stored in the local exchange, and thus eliminating the risk for somebody to manipulate the portable part .
- Yet another advantage is that two access right domains may be specified; one general and one intended particularly for originating calls.
- Fig. 1 shows schematically a PARK, an IPUI and a radio fixed part identity illustrating restricted subscriber mobility according to prior art .
- Fig. 2 shows a DECT based PSTN/CTM network with restricted subscriber mobility according to the present invention.
- Fig. 3 shows a location data base according to a first embodiment of the present invention.
- Fig. 4 shows a location data base according to a second embodiment of the present invention.
- £art identity which is the corresponding identity in the fixed constituent of the DECT network. It comprises e.g. an ARI, called primary ARI or PARI, which identifies a fixed part, and a radio fixed part number RPN, which identifies an individual radio fixed part.
- the RFPI comprises also a one-bit E field, which indicates if there are any secondary access right identities available.
- fig. 1 is further shown the structure of an IPUI, which comprises a portable user type PUT and a portable user number PUN.
- the PARK can be written as PARK ⁇ n ⁇ , where n is the value of the PARK level indicator.
- n is the value of the PARK level indicator.
- the IPUI of a subscriber is linked to the domains the subscriber has access right to according to his subscription and used for deciding whether a call or a call attempt should be accepted or rejected.
- a DECT network according to the invention. It comprises several fixed parts FP1, FP2 , FP3 , FP4 ; each of them belonging to a different location area LAI, LA2 , LA3 , LA4.
- a portable part PPl is activated in one of location areas LA4.
- an access right domain e.g. LAI, LA2, LA3
- a location data base LDB as shown in fig. 4.
- the access right domain is defined as a group of fixed parts, which are represented in terms of their RFPI's, e.g. RFPIl, RFPI2, RFPI3 , as shown in fig. 3.
- RFPI radio frequency
- RFPI2 radio frequency identifier
- RFPI3 RFPI3
- the location data base LDB is preferably stored in a local exchange LE of the DECT network. It may also be part of a home data base HDB of the network, which then is copied to a visitors data base VDB in the local exchange where the subscriber is located.
- the international portable user identity IPUIl of the portable part PPl is analyzed to determine whether the portable part PPl has access right to the domain where it is located, e.g. LA4. All calls or call attempts are rejected in case the portable part PPl does not have access right to that domain LA4, which is the case in the example of fig. 2. Some calls, e.g. emergency calls and calls to the service provider, may be accepted even though the check fails.
- the predetermined activity which initiates the analyzing of the access rights may be a location update or a handover.
- a check is initiated when doing an external handover, i.e. when moving from one fixed part to another.
- This latter check makes, however, sense only if the access right of a subscriber covers only a subset of the domain of a fixed part, i.e. that the PARK level indicator of the subscriber is larger than the PARI .
- the analyzing may take place at the setup of originating calls for subscribers that have not done a location update, that is, are not registered.
- a first access right domain is to be used for analyzing in case of a location update, which always take part when activating the portable part, or a handover.
- a second access right is to be used in case of an originating call.
- the latter access right domain is preferably a subset of the former, e.g. covering only a subset of the domain of a fixed part .
- a black list has to be defined for each portable part PPl that is to be restricted, in which all types of forbidden originating calls are stated.
- a white list specifying allowed originating calls is used. For example, whole routing number areas or telephone numbers of individual portable parts may be specified in the white list, which preferably is stored together with other subscriber data associated with the portable part PPl in a home data base HDB of the network. The white list has then to be copied to the local exchange of the coverage area in which the portable part PPl temporarily or permanently is located.
- IPUIl of the portable part PPl is linked to the white list.
- IPUIl of the portable part PPl is analyzed and by referring to the corresponding white list it may be determined whether the portable part PPl has right to perform the call. If it does not have that right the call is rejected.
- the present invention is valid for all portable user types PUT, such as N, S, 0, T, P, Q and R.
