Description
BRA WITH SHOULDER PAD FASTENINGS
DESCRIPTION
This invention is for the clothing industry and specifically regards
the shoulder padding worn with shirts, blouses, sweaters and
women's clothing in general.
To emphasise the shoulders of certain garments or to alter the
woman's shoulder line shoulder pads are used, i.e. soft spongy
inserts are put into the garment, between the garment and the
lining, or between the garment and the person's shoulder.
There are a number of different shapes of shoulder pad and the
shape and size depend largely on current fashion.
As a result clothes with one type of shoulder pad go out of fashion
in favour of garments with less shoulder padding.
It is then necessary to replace the shoulder pad. To do this the
lining and shoulder pads have to be unstitched.
Summer clothes often have shoulder pads which are attached by
means of small and ugly stitching. A result of this is that the
shoulder pads move about easily and frequently have to be pushed
back into position.
It is not an uncommon sight to see women with shoulder pads out
of place forced to fiddle, in a way which can be embarrassing in
public, to get them back in position.
The basis of this patent is the of use the bra to fasten the shoulder
pads.
The new shoulder pad, instead of being fixed to the dress, shirt or
sweater is fastened to the shoulder-strap of the bra, corset or body
stocking.
The bra is a garment which is almost invariably worn by all
women.
The new shoulder pad is fitted in a removable fashion to the bra's
shoulder strap. This does not move with respect to the woman's
body and consequently neither does the shoulder pad.
Special fastening and attaching systems are fixed to the concave
underside of the shoulder pad to secure it to the strap.
These fastening and attaching systems may, for example, consist
in two snap fasteners one of which is fixed, or sewn, into the
underside of the pad while the other part is attached to the bra
strap. Another attaching system may consist in two Velcro strips,
with one part fixed under the pad and the other fixed to ihe bra
strap, or other such suitable systems.
The shoulder pad may be any shape, colour or size and may be
made out of any suitable material.
It therefore follows that a single bra may act as an attaching point
for various kinds of shoulder pads of different shape, size, or
colour while the same pair of shoulder pads may be attached to
any kind of bra fitted with suitable and matching fastenings.
Attaching the shoulder pads to the bra straps offers many
advantages:
- it ensures that the pads will be always positioned correctly, even
when wearing large or loose dresses: in these cases the pads
always remain in the correct position, even if the shirt or sweater
moves according to the person's movements;
- it means that the wearer can change dress, shirt or sweater
several times in the course of the day while keeping the shoulder
pad fitted in the morning (e.g. a shoulder pad which is suitable for
all kinds of garments); or she may change the colour of the
shoulder pad to go with the next dress or if she has to wear a see-
through or semi see-through gaπnent in a matter of seconds, the
old shoulder pads can be quickly removed to attach those of the
desired colour;
- there is a saving in time as it is no longer necessary to sew a
Velcro strip onto every article of clothing as currently has to be
done with some kinds of clothes;
- it means only a small number of shoulder parts need be kept;
- only one or two pairs of shoulder pads need to be packed when
travelling.
The following is just an example among many of the practical
applications of the invention in question, illustrated in the attached
drawing.
Figure 1 shows a bra being worn where the straps (A) are
provided with snap fasteners (C), and the new shoulder pad (B),
the underside of which is provided with snap fasteners (D) that
match those present on the straps (A).
In figure 2 the snap fasteners have been replaced by pieces of
Velcro (S, T) which allow a variable attachment for the new
shoulder pad (B) to the bra strap (A).
The above are the basic outlines of the invention, on the basis of
which the technician will be able to provide for implementation;
therefore, any change which may be necessary upon
implementation is to be regarded as completely protected by the
present invention.
With reference to the above description and the attached drawing,
the following claims are put forth.
Claims
1. A bra characterized in that its shoulder straps are provided with
attaching or fastening elements which can be fitted to matching
attaching or fastening elements located on the underside of the
shoulder pads.
2. A shoulder pad characterized in that it is provided with
attaching or fastening elements on its underside which can be
fitted to matching attaching or fastening elements located on the
bra straps.
3. A bra according to claim 1, characterized in that the shoulder
straps are attached to the shoulder pads by means of snap
fasteners.
4. A shoulder pad according to claim 2, characterized in that it is
attached to the shoulder strap of the bra by means of snap
fasteners.
5. A bra according to claim 1, characterized in that the shoulder
straps are attached to the shoulder pads by means of pieces of
Velcro.
