Definitions

  • the present invention relates generally to gaskets used in printed circuit (PC) boards and more specifically, to a gasket which functions as an environmental seal and prevents the transfer of electromagnetic interference (EMI) through gaps between a PC board and an EMI shield such as a metal case.

  • Circuit designs often include both digital and analog circuits, also known as mixed circuit designs.
  • a mobile radio includes both an analog circuit which forms radio frequency (RF) circuits and a digital circuit which forms control circuits.
  • Mixed circuit designs are highly susceptible to cross-talk due to propagation of EMI between the analog and digital circuits and are generally shielded from each other to minimize the propagation of EMI .
  • metal cases or lids are mounted on a PC board in order to isolate circuits which are sensitive to EMI .
