Abstract
A clip on seat is disclosed. The device is a seat (1) with preformed sections (2) which include a projected edge (3) attached to the underside of the seat by means of fasteners. When the seat (1) with the clips attached is pressed over the commode frame (4) the seat is firmly held in position within the commode frame (4). This device can firmly secure different styles of seats to commode frames.
Description
CLIP ON SEAT
This invention relates to the providing of greater ease in the frequent removal and replacement of seats from commode chairs for cleaning, replacement and installation of varied seat shapes, achieving interchangeability with other types of seats. Personnel attending to persons with (medical problems) are required to remove seats to change seat style, replace and maintain hygiene on products/appliances used by the infirmed.
Earlier seating attachments included mechanical fastenings such as screws fixing the seats to the commode frames. In maintaining hygiene and when seats are required to be replaced, products may require dismantling to access normally inaccessible areas, this requiring the use of mechanical tools. In certain cases, product has therefore been required to be dismantled by persons other than those in attendance of the infirmed.
The new proposal consists of 2 preformed sections securely fixed to the underside of commode seats such that when the seat incorporating the preformed sections are placed over the commode frame and pressed into position, will allow deformation of the flexible section until the seat sits square on the frame at which time the flexible material section clamps the seat to the frame, thus eliminating the need for screw type fasteners or fasteners requiring tools for the seat removal or fixing.
The new proposals have the advantage that the removal and replacement of seats will not require any special tools and may be carried out by any person with minimal training. Hygiene could be enhanced as the seat will be readily removable in a shorter space of time and normally inaccessible areas can be immediately accessed.
In addition, should a commode be required to be fitted with a new or different type of seat, the invention is interchangeable. The invention may consist in the one form of commode seats along with a continuous length of preformed or moulded material securely fixed to the underside of the commode seat. The material section may have an external edge similar in profile to that of the frame to which the seat will be attached. The material will be capable of being deformed during the seat installation and once in position, be capable of retaining the seat to the frame.
Another format of the invention may comprise of preformed or moulded sections in shorter lengths intermittently spaced with projections to fit under the commode frame such that those projections would hold the seat securely to the frame.
The preformed sections may be made of suitable material such as Metal or Plastic. In order to explain the invention more fully, references are made to the following drawings in order that a better understanding of the invention may be made.
Referring to FIG 1 it can be seen that the clip on seat consists of 2 preformed clip sections 2 attached to the underside of a seat 1.
The clips 2 consist of preformed sections attached to the underside of the seat 1 in a position such that when the clips are placed over the frame and pushed down, the frame will deform the clips to allow passage of the clips past the frame providing an interference fit between the frames and the clips.
FIG 2 shows clip on seat about to be fitted onto the commode frame 4.
FIG 3 shows the clip and seat in position on the commode frame. It can be seen that the clips form around the commode frame 4 holding the seat firmly to the frame and located square to the frame structure.
By using this clip seat, the seat may be readily removed and replaced with just a pulling or pushing action on the seat front edge.
The shape and material of the invention is not restricted to the example shown, but may use an appropriate section or material suitable for the application.
Claims
1. A commode clip on seat comprising preformed sections attached to a seat positioned to grip a commode frame without any mechanical fasteners being required.
2. The commode clip on seat of claim 1 wherein the clips of a preformed flexible shape fastened to the underside of the seat engage a commode frame such that the preformed clip shall hold firm the seat to the frame.
3. The clips of claim 2 wherein the clips comprise of two preformed flexible sections held in position to grip the frame.
4. The seat of claim 1 wherein the clips are positioned and supported by the seat to allow correct positioning.
5. The commode clip on seat device substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
