Description
Compressing device
The present invention relates to an arrangement for compressing material in a container with a compressing roller movably accommodated inside the container, which roller can be caused to move in and out of the aforementioned container by means of a power source.
The principal object of the present invention is, in the first instance, to make available an arrangement of the kind indicated above, which permits operation with a high compressive force and which exhibits a low functional installation height for the purposes of its handling.
Previously disclosed in accordance with US-A 4,426,925, for example, is a compressing system exhibiting a support arm with a telescopic or articulated function for a compressing roller, although this system does not operate with a high compressive force on its compressing roller over the largest proportion of a compressing vessel. Said object is achieved by means of an arrangement in accordance with the present invention, which is characterized essentially in that the roller is pivotally mounted on and movably attached to a tubular main guide track capable of being accommodated along the side of the container, which track forms a pivot bearing for a rigid lifting arm extending between the roller and the aforementioned main guide track, which arm is capable of being actuated by a jack connected to a carriage or similar sliding component moving along a lateral guide track.
The invention is described below as a preferred illustrative embodiment, in conjunction with which reference is made to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 shows a sectioned view of a container with the arrangement in its raised charging and discharging position; Fig. 2 shows a cross-section through a container with a compressing device acting therein;
Fig. 3 shows a sectional view of the arrangement along the line III-III in Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 shows a view of the arrangement from above. The present invention envisages an arrangement
1 intended to permit the effective and reliable compression of various materials 2, for example waste consisting of, amongst other things, sorted packaging materials and wrappers made of board or plastic materials, wooden boxes or other bulky items that are suitable for compaction on- site to enable them to be put in a container 3 adapted for the aforementioned purpose, preferably a container that is open in an upward sense 4, but exhibits walls 3A-3D and a bottom 3E to the sides 5-8 and downwards 9, before the container 3 is transported away to the emptying point for the aforementioned compressed material. Movably accommodated inside the aforementioned container 3 is a compressing roller 10, which is capable of actuation, as and when required, by means of an appropriate power source 11 in a previously disclosed fashion, and in such a way as to be capable of being moved into 12 and out of 13 the aforementioned container 3.
In accordance with the invention the roller 10, which is capable of being driven by means of a drive component M preferably accommodated internally within the same, is caused to rotate in the desired direction of rotation 14, 15 and to move over the material 2 in the container in the desired horizontal direction 16, 17, mounted in a displaceable fashion along a guide track 19, 50 capable of being accommodated alongside the container 3.
The aforementioned roller 10 is capable of being carried by means of a rigid arm 20 or some other appropriate carrier.
The aforementioned arm 20 is appropriately angled and has two arm components 20A, 20B extending at angle x in relation to one another, in conjunction with which the angle x is approximately 90°. The aforementioned lifting pivot arm 20 is capable of being actuated by one or
more jacks 11, and preferably by a pair of hydraulically acting jacks.
In the preferred embodiment illustrated here, the lifting arm 20 is double and is attached to a frame 23 capable of being accommodated to the side 22 of the aforementioned container 3. The frame 23 carries it about a pivot bearing 26 on the frame 23 in the desired direction of pivoting 27, 42 by means of the lifting pivot arm 20 capable of pivoting actuation by the jacks 11. The aforementioned frame 23, which can be in the form of a preferably triangular, trestle-like steel structure, carries the aforementioned pivot bearing 26 at its upper end 23A. At either end 201, 202 of the frame 20 a hydraulic cylinder 11 of the aforementioned kind is mounted via articulated links 28, and the opposite end of the piston cylinder 11 is movably mounted via an articulated link 29 to the frame 23 via a guide track 19.
More specifically, the roller 10 is pivotally mounted and movably attached to a main guide track 50, which is capable of being accommodated along the side of the container 3 and forms part of a pivot bearing 26 for a rigid arm 20 extending between the roller 10 and the aforementioned main guide track 50. The aforementioned arm 20 is capable of being caused to pivot by a jack 11, which is attached to a carriage 30 or a similar sliding component that is capable of moving along a lateral guide track 19. The roller 10 is attached via the lifting arm 20 to a ring-shaped or sleeve-shaped bearing component 51, which is capable of moving along the main guide track 50 and is in turn connected to the lifting arm 20.
The pivot bearing 26 is preferably in the form of a bearing sleeve 51 consisting of a plastic and/or metallic material and a pipe 50 consisting of a metallic and/or plastic material. The main guide track 50, which can be in the form of a tubular profile, is appropriately supported at the upper end 23A of the frame in accordance with the foregoing, in which case the frame 23 is appropriately in the form of pairs of triangular, trestle-
like steel structures 23', 23' ', with the main guide track 50 connecting them together at a mutual distance A from one another.
The lateral guide track 19 is carried permanently attached to the frame 23 along its one side, and the moving carriage 30 carried by the aforementioned track 19 exhibits pairs of wheels, etc., 31 which are so arranged as to act upon the intended running surface 32, 33 of the lateral guide track 19, preferably the side flanges of an I-section girder.
The aforementioned moving carriage 30 in turn carries a hydraulic pump 52 or some other device intended for driving the moving parts M, 10, 11, 20, 31 that are included in the aforementioned system 100. Finally, it can be stated that the aforementioned carriage 30 carries the drive device 52 at a level I below the level II for the wheels 31 of the carriage directly beneath the lateral guide track 19. By means of the hydraulic cylinders 11 the pivot arm 20 is retained with the cylinder 10 in a downward-pivoted position at the correct working height 35, or in the raised position U to permit replacement of the container 3, for example by means of a platform vehicle.
Both the compressing roller 10 and its drive in the intended direction 14, 15 and the hydraulic cylinders 11 are controlled with so-called PLC equipment or some other suitable automatic control arrangement, so that the roller 10 can be driven so that it moves forwards and backwards 16, 17 in an intended container 3 whilst compressing the contents 2 therein. The aforementioned roller 10 is in turn attached to an angled, rigid arm 36, which at one end 36A is rigidly attached to the roller 10. The other end 36B of the rigid supporting arm 36 for the roller is attached to the pivot arm 20 via an articulation 37.
The function of the invention is such that, when the roller 10 is driven so that it moves in the longitudinal sense 16, 17, at the same time as it
compresses the material 2 in the container 3 under its own weight, the bearing component 51 of the bearing 26 is displaced along the main guide track 50, and the carriage 30 is displaced along the lateral guide track 19. In so doing, the roller 10 bears down upon the underlying material 2 and compresses it with considerable force. By means of the forces applied by the jack 11, the roller 10 can be caused, via the frame-shaped lifting pivot arm 20 and thus the roller support arm 36, to be forced down further at the selected force F. Once the roller 10 has reached the end area 43 and 38 of the container, the drive is reversed for the roller 10, whose own weight against the material is not so small, as a roller 10 may weigh approx. 1000 kg. The roller 10, controlled as outlined above, is caused to be guided along the main guide track 50, in order finally to be raised up by means of the arm 20. There are stops 39, 40 at the respective ends of the guide track 19, 50, which arrest continued movement of the roller 10 past them. Pressing with great force against material 2 in the container 3 in the longitudinal sense A of the container is achieved in this way. At the same time, the total height at which the arrangement operates is small by comparison with previously disclosed compression systems. Illustrated in the drawings are examples of rollers 10 and their execution with crushing devices 41 arranged over the envelope surface 10A of the roller.
The invention is not restricted to the illustrative embodiments described above and shown in the drawings, but may be varied within the scope of the patent claims without departing from the idea of invention.
