Abstract
On améliore les performances d'un système de communications mobile en détectant si l'unité mobile présente une caractéristique particulière, et en régulant le fonctionnement de la station de base pour accroître les performances du système en réponse à la détection de ladite caractéristique particulière. La caractéristique peut être une réception radio avec des exigences moindres dans le rapport signal/interférence (C/I). Dans ce cas, on peut améliorer les performances du système en régulant la puissance de l'émetteur de la station de base pour qu'elle se situe dans une plage de valeurs réduites en réponse à la détection de cette caractéristique particulière dans l'unité mobile, ce qui produit moins d'interférences dans les mobiles qui nécessitent un rapport C/I plus élevé et accroît la capacité du système. La détection peut comprendre la réception d'un signal provenant de l'unité mobile, ce signal étant codé pour indiquer si la station mobile présente ladite caractéristique particulière. Dans une variante, le signal peut être codé pour permettre d'identifier l'unité mobile émettrice. Dans ce cas, la station de base utilise le signal d'identification pour rechercher dans une base de données un code indicateur de caractéristique, cette base de données pouvant être située dans le central d'origine de l'abonné. Selon un autre aspect de l'invention, le taux le plus bas entre deux taux de facturation est sélectionné pour la facturation d'une unité mobile en réponse à la détection de la caractéristique particulière dans cette unité mobile. Les économies que permet ce système sont ainsi répercutées sur les abonnés, qui sont par la même occasion motivés à acheter l'unité mobile, généralement plus coûteuse, présentant la caractéristique particulière.
