Abstract

The invention provides a biochemically pure MUC1 protein, selected from the group consisting of MUC1/X, MUC1/X/alt, MUC1/Y, MUC1/Y/alt, MUC1/V, MUC1/V/alt, MUC1/W, MUC1/W/alt, MUC1/Z and MUC1/Z/alt or a functional derivative thereof devoid of a tamdem repeat array. The invention also provides a diagnostic agent for the detection of human cancer cells and a pharmaceutical composition for the treatment of human cancer, and a method for detecting the presence of cancer in a patient.
