Abstract

A guide coat is formed on a surface as part of a smoothing operation, e.g. of a vehicle bodywork, by distributing finely divided particulate material, e.g. a non-toxic, water-based black powder paint, over the surface so the material remains on and thus highlights any irregularities on the surface. The material may be wiped onto the surface by an applicator, e.g. synthetic foam or sponge (7), impregnated with the material. The material may be stored in a container (1) in a loose, finely divided form (2) or in a compact, substantially solid form (9) from which finely divided particles may be removed. The majority of the material is subsequently removed from the surface as the surface is abraded to remove the highlighted irregularities.

Claims

AMENDED CLAIMS
[received by the International Bureau on 30 March 1995 (30.03.95) ; original claims unchanged ; new claims 26-37 added (2 pages) ]
26. A container for use in apparatus as claimed in Claim 5, the container holding material for forming a guide coat of finely divided, particulate material.
27. A container as claimed in Claim 26 in which the material is in a substantially loose, finely divided, particulate form.
28. A container as claimed in Claim 27 with closure means shaped to be a push fit within the open end of the container so as to close the container.
29. A container as claimed in Claim 27 with closure means in the form of a simple lid.
30. A container as claimed in any of Claims 26 to 29 with perforated means fitted within the container between the said material and the open end of the container.
31. A container as claimed in Claim 30 in which the perforated means is a friction fit within the container such that it does not move when the container is inverted or shaken but can be moved if a force is applied directly thereto.
32. A container as claimed in Claim 30 or 31 provided with a seal over perforations in the perforated means to prevent the said material passing through the perforated means when the container is being transported or handled before use.
33. A container as claimed in Claim 32 in which the seal comprises a sticky tape or sticky label.
34. A container as claimed in any of Claims 30 to 33 in which a drying agent is mixed with the said material and perforations in the perforated mean? are sized so as to permit passage of the particulate material therethrough but to prevent passage of the drying agent therethrough. -15-
35. A container as claimed in any of Claims 26 to 34 of a size suitable for holding in the hand.
36. A container for use in apparatus as claimed in Claim 5, the container holding material in a compact, substantially solid form such that finely divided, particulate material can be removed therefrom when an applicator is rubbed thereover.
37. A container as claimed in any of Claims 26 to 36 in which the said material is a powder paint.
