Definitions
- the present invention relates to the field of extinguishing fires, in particular compositions for producing fire-extinguishing gas-aerosol mixtures, and can be used in particular in generator devices for spatial purposes
- Fire extinguishing which can be used for the elimination of fires and fires in closed rooms and volumes.
- a composition for producing an inert gas mixture which can be used to extinguish fires in closed rooms.
- the composition is a homogeneous mixture of nitrocellulose (40%), dinitroethylene glycol (18%), nitroguanidine (30%) and technological processing additives (12%) (cf. J. N. Sapiro, G. J.
- compositions for producing an inert gas mixture with an aerosol content of 5 to 10% which improves the fire extinguishing effect of the mixture.
- the composition is a heterogeneous mixture of potassium perchlorate (55%), nitrocellulose (21%), nitroglycerin (13%), magnesium (0.5%) and magnesium oxide (0.5%) (JM Sapiro, GJ Masing, MB Putnikov, loc. Cit.).
- a disadvantage of the known compositions is that they have a fire-extinguishing effect which is too low and that the temperature of the gas-aerosol mixture produced is too high (1200 to 3500 ° K), which leads to
- the object of the present invention comes closest to a composition which is described in the Soviet copy 1445739 and which is described there for use as a propellant gas mixture, in particular for powder extinguishers.
- This known composition consists of potassium nitrate and a phenol formaldehyde resin of the resol type.
- the mixture described has the disadvantage that the gas-aerosol mixture which forms has a low fire-releasing effect, which is due to the low aerosol content in the mixture.
- WO 92/17244 there is also a composition for producing a fire-extinguishing gas-aerosol mixture based on a mixture of an alkali metal nitrate or perchlorate with a combustible component in the form of a phenol formaldehyde designated with the trade name "Iditol".
- Novolak type hyd resin known. When ignited, this mixture, like the known mixtures above, leads to a high temperature flame, so that a long flare is formed. In addition, a strong development of soot is observed.
- composition according to the invention achieves the objects in that a composition according to Soviet copyright certificate 1445739 is changed to solve a different type of technical problem, by changing the quantity ratios and by additionally introducing a suitable, selected, inert additive into such a composition.
- the composition according to the invention for producing a fire-extinguishing gas-aerosol mixture consists in adding a mixture containing a phenol formaldehyde resin and an alkali nitrate, in particular potassium nitrate, in which a novolak type resin is used as the phenol formaldehyde resin basic magnesium carbonate is incorporated into the mixture in amounts of 23 to 29% by weight in the two constituents mentioned, and also preferably a technological processing additive which is preferably selected from a group of
- Excipients consisting of fluoroplastics, zinc stearate, magnesium stearate and calcium stearate, the above Components in the preferred composition according to the invention are present in the following proportions:
- Phenol formaldehyde resin of the novolak type 12.5 to 15.0% by weight of basic magnesium carbonate 23 to 29% by weight of technological processing additive 0.5 to 1.5% by weight.
- a composition according to the invention differs in that it uses a different phenol formaldehyde resin, namely by using a phenol formaldehyde resin of the novolak type instead of a phenol formaldehyde resin of the resol type, and also by
- a technological processing additive which is preferably selected from a fluoroplast, from zinc stearate, magnesium stearate or calcium stearate, and also through the quantitative ratio of the components of the mixture.
- a phenol formaldehyde resin as combustible material is also known from other compositions, namely from the recipe for a red pyrotechnic firework mixture which contains 65% KC10 3 , 20% SrC0 3 and 15% C 13 H 12 0 2 (Idit ) contains (AA ⁇ itlovskij, Fundamentals of Pyrotechnics, Moscow, Verlag Maschinenbau, 1973, page 320 ( Russian)).
- processing aids of the preferred type mentioned and the corresponding quantitative ratios are not described in connection with a composition for producing a fire-extinguishing gas-aerosol mixture of the type according to the invention.
- a technological additive in particular a fluoroplastic, of zinc stearate, magnesium stearate or calcium stearate in amounts in the range from 1 to 1.5% by weight improves the technological properties of the composition, in particular its flowability
- the lower limit of the novolak-type phenol formaldehyde resin content is that when the content is less than 12.5% by weight, the gas generating capacity of the composition decreases, so that it becomes more difficult to discharge an aerosol from the composition and consequently it becomes difficult also reduces the fire-extinguishing effectiveness of the gas-aerosol mixture.
- the specified upper limit for the content of phenol-formaldehyde resin is due to the fact that it is difficult to ignite the composition when the content exceeds 15% by weight.
- the lower limit for the content of basic magnesium carbonate is due to the fact that, with a content of less than 23% by weight, the slag which forms does not form a sintered, porous residual body, but loses its shape and melts. In such a case, the openings for the exit of the fire-extinguishing gas-aerosol mixture could clog in the generator device for the spatial fire extinguishing.
- the upper limit for the content of basic magnesium carbonate is due to the fact that at a content of more than 29% by weight the flammability of the composition becomes insufficient.
- Table 1 summarizes the results of experiments with exemplary embodiments for the composition according to the invention for producing a fire-extinguishing gas-aerosol mixture and the known mixture, which show that the fire-extinguishing effect is improved, and furthermore that Specify temperatures and torch lengths which result at the cross section of the outlet opening of the generator for the production of a fire-extinguishing gas-aerosol mixture for the spatial fire fighting.
- the composition according to the invention is distinguished by an increased fire-extinguishing effect of the gas aerosol mixture produced, while at the same time the low temperature
- composition according to the invention also guarantees that a porous, in
- composition according to the invention is preferably in
- Device 20 e.g. can be arranged in railway wagons, transport ships, trucks or transport planes.
- Devices of this type are generally connected to one or more temperature sensors which emit an electrical signal when a certain predetermined temperature is reached
- composition according to the invention is in the form of * 35 cold-pressed moldings, for example large tablets, which are contained in suitable receptacles with gas outlet openings within the device. Comparative comparison of the properties of various compositions which, when burned, produce gas-aerosol mixtures with a fire-extinguishing effect.
- the resin used is a resin with the Russian type designation SF-0112 A.
- the amount of mixture given in column 3 was calculated from the difference between the composition used and the remaining slag body and converted to an extinguishing space volume of Im 3 . Specifically, the data shown in the table was obtained as follows:
- test room in the form of a container with polymer glass walls and a volume of 0.125 m 3 , metal shells with a depth of 15 mm and a diameter of 40 mm were placed at heights of 23 mm, 295 mm and 375 mm, and filled with acetone were.
- the "leakage" of the test room is the ratio of the openings in the walls of the test room to the total inner surface of the room. This "leak" was 1%.
- the acetone was ignited. In the absence of an extinguishing agent, the three fires burned for about 5 minutes.
- the remaining slag bodies were weighed and the amount of the extinguishing mixture produced was calculated from the weight difference between the mass of the tablets used and the slag body and in the table as Extinguishing mixture concentration converted to 1 m 3 .
