Definitions

  • the invention relates to a handle for a cleaning utensil which can be secured to the first end of the handle.
  • Such handles are normally of a fixed length. It is typical for the known handles to consist of a tube or a round rod with a diameter in the range of 20 - 25 mm, which as a rule is determined for economic reasons and sometimes for practical reasons out of regard for the mounting of the utensil on the end of the handle. From the ergonomic point of view, however, this is disadvantageous for the personnel who use the cleaning utensils in their work, in that the diameters used are ergonomically inexpedient. In order to avoid cramp in the hand, the diameter of the handle at the point which is gripped by the hand must be more than 30 mm, preferably around 35 mm in diameter. However, if the whole of the handle is configured with a diameter of more than 30 mm, it is a complicated matter to connect the cleaning utensil to the handle.
  • the peculiar feature of the handle according to the invention is that the handle comprises a shaft part and a handgrip, in that the handgrip has a larger diameter than and surrounds a part of the shaft part.
  • the handgrip and the shaft part can be mutually telescoped and fastened releasably in different mutual positions, said positions corresponding to different distances between the handgrxp and the first end of the shaft. Therefore, with the invention it is possible to retain a shaft part with a relatively small diameter, with subsequent practical and economic advantages, while at the same time the handgrxp has the ideal ergonomic diameter for the hands.
  • the limited length of the handgrip in relation to the total length of the shaft will normally give rise to inconvenience for people of different heights when using cleaning utensils with such a handle.
  • the handgrip is merely displaced in relation to the shaft part, and it is thus always possible to achieve the ideal length for a given user.
  • the mutual displacement is made much easier to carry out by configuring the hand ⁇ grip so that it can surround the thinner shaft part.
  • the shaft part consists of a first part, which comprises the first end, and a second part which comprises the second end of the handle, where the second part can be telescoped into the first part, and where the handgrip is fastened to the second part.
  • a preferred embodiment for the snap-lock connection is disclosed in claim 4.
  • the length of the shaft and the position of the handgrip can hereby be set during the work. Separation of the shaft and the use of tools is thus avoided.
  • the second part can be configured substantially as a tube with two longitudinal and diametri- cally opposite slits with edges which are provided with notches, and where the pin is disposed transversely inside the first part at a distance from the first end, so that the pin extends through both slits.
  • the pin can be disposed transversely through the second part and, when the parts are fastened, the two notches are at the same time brought into engagement with the pin, hereby ensuring a very secure connection.
  • the con ⁇ nection between the second part of the shaft and the hand- grip consists of a spring-loaded pin provided in the shaft part, said pin engaging with a hole or recess in the hand ⁇ grip, it is achieved that the handgrip and the second part of the shaft part can be easily separated, for example when replacing the handgrip.

  • fig. 5 shows a section along the line A-A in fig. 3. DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • the handle has a shaft part 1 made of aluminium tubing with relatively small diameter, the one end of the shaft part 1 being provided with a fitting 2 for the mounting of a head with a cleaning utensil, for example a brush, a scraper or a swab.
  • a cleaning utensil for example a brush, a scraper or a swab.
  • the other end of the shaft part 1 is provided with a hand- grip 3.
  • This has a diameter of approximately 34 mm and is made of a synthetic material with a rough surface and having longitudinal grooves 4 out of regard for optimum grip.
  • the handgrip 3 can be displaced along the shaft part 1, see fig. 2.
  • the shaft part 1 is made up of two parts, la and lb, in that the part la consists mainly of an aluminium tube into which the part lb can be telescoped.
  • the outer end of the part lb is provided with a knob 5 of synthetic material which is provided with a through-going hole 6 for the hanging-up of the shaft.
  • the knob 5 there is a spring-loaded pin 7 which can be brought into engagement with a hole 8 in the handgrip 3.
  • the handgrip 3 can thus be separated from the shaft part 1 and displaced along but independently of the part lb.
  • the part la nearest to the other end of the shaft part 1 is provided with a bush 9 which forms a reinforcement at the end of the tube for the part la.
  • a through-going pin 10 is secured through the part la and the bush 9.
  • the part lb is in principle built up as a tube, for example of aluminium, which is slotted along the whole of its longitudinal axis, thus giving rise to two parallel and diametrically opposite slits 11.
  • the part lb is hereby transformed into two partly-cylindrical rods 12, i.e. the rods 12 are configured as pieces of the wall of a tube.
  • the knob 5 At the one end the rods 12 are joined together by the knob 5, and at the other end the rods 12 are joined together by a plug 13, which can also be of synthetic material.
  • Each of the rods 12 are provided along their one side edge with a series of notches 14 which are circular and which break the straight side edge on the rods 12.
  • the notches 14 have a dimension which enables them to accommodate the transversely-extending pin 10, cf. fig. 4.
  • the notches 14 extend over an angular arc greater than 180 degrees, where ⁇ by it is possible to achieve a snap connection in the engagement between the notches 14 and the pin 10.
  • the two rows of notches 14 are disposed along the side edges of the rods 12 so that the two rows of notches 14 face in the same tangential direction in relation to the longitudinal axis of the shaft.
  • the second part lb of the shaft part 1 By turning the second part lb of the shaft part 1 it is thus possible to release the part lb from the pin 10, and thereafter to move the part lb to a new position, i.e. so that the handgrip 3 is at a greater or longer distance from the handle's fitting 2 and herewith the cleaning utensil, after which the part lb can be turned again in the opposite direction and a new notch brought into engagement with the pin 10.
  • the handgrip 3 can thus be set at different distances from the cleaning utensil, and the length of the handle can easily be varied as desired.
  • the handgrxp 3 can be connected in a fixed manner to the movable part lb of the handle, or the shaft part 1 can be made in one piece and have a handgrip 3 which can slide externally along said shaft part.
  • the snap-lock connection can be replaced by a stepless fixing arrangement, e.g. a friction connection of a com- monly-known kind.
