Abstract

Un génome végétal recombiné contient une cascade de gènes qui fait qu'il ne peut produire une plante mature et nécessite la présence d'un inducteur chimique. La cascade de gènes comporte une transition génique pouvant être induite par application externe d'un inducteur chimique et commandant l'expression d'un produit génique qui affecte l'expression d'un second gène dans le génome. La survie ou le développement de la plante dépend soit de l'expression, soit de la non-expression du second gène et l'application de l'inducteur détermine, par conséquent, le développement ou le non-développement de la plante. Dans un exemple, le second gène code une molécule cytoxique et l'expression de ce gène est fatale à la plante. Dans un autre exemple, le second gène code une caractéristique souhaitable que l'on peut séparer de façon sélective en appliquant ou en retirant l'inducteur chimique. On peut placer le second gène sous le contrôle d'un promoteur régulé du développement.
