Definitions

  • Fastening means for holding two elements together
  • the present invention concerns a fastening means in accordance with the preamble to the appended patent claim 1.
  • a fastening means of this type is known previously from German Patent DE- A 1 625494, where a screw is fixed in a vehicle body and its head forms a mounting for a clip-on bracket within an element which is to be fitted to the vehicle body.
  • the disadvantage of that fastening means is that only a single fitting position for the element is possible. This may cause the fitted element, despite everything, not always to end up in exactly the correct position, with consequent aesthetic disadvantages. Such a situation may occur where two elements are to be connected to one another and to be mutually aligned in height. Another critical situation is where the vehicle body is provided with folds or the like which require exact fitting of the element.
  • the object of the invention is to eliminate the aforesaid disadvantages of known types of fastening means and to bring about a fastening means which for a given fitting position on the vehicle body nevertheless allows some adjustment of the position for the element which is to be fitted, while at the same time ensuring good fastening.
  • the head part may have the same diameter in two mutually perpendicular directions, said diameter being the maximum diameter of the head part, while the four radii that form these two diameters are of .mutually different lengths.
  • Disposing guide surfaces of the gripping part on the inside of two mutually parallel gripping arms whose free ends are bent towards one another and are intended for contact with one side of the head part also makes it possible to achieve position modification in defined steps in a first direction, while the elements remain mutually movable in a direction at right angles thereto.

  • the rotational position of the retaining piece 10 on the bracket 9 is fixed by means of mutually cooperating locking devices on the bracket 9 and the support part 14.
  • These locking devices may, for example, as here shown, comprise a projection 17 disposed on the support part 14 and fitting into a corresponding hole in the bracket 9.
  • the head part 11 is eccentric relative to the stem part 13 and may be set in various defined rotational positions relative to the support part 14 and the bracket 9. This settability is made possible by the fact that the opposite end of the stem part 13 from the head part 11 forms a foot part 18 which fits into a corresponding recess 19 in the support part 14 (Figs. 6 and 8).
  • the fact that the foot part 18 and the recess 19 are both of square shape makes it possible to set the head part at various predetermined angles at intervals of 90°, although other shapes may of course give other possibilities.

  • the radii r1 and r2 have two opposite surface portions 22, 23 on the periphery of the head part and the radii r3 and r4 have to f uther opposite surface portions 24,25 on the periphery of the head part. These surface portions 22-25 are intended to cooperate in pairs with two mutually parallel guide surfaces 26, 27 within the gripping piece 12 (Fig.4).
  • the fact that the support part 14 is positioned in a certain position relative to the vehicle body 4 by means of the locking device 17 and that the head part 11, via the stem part 13 and the foot part 18, is positioned relative to the support part 14 also makes it possible to position the head part 11 relative to the vehicle body 4.
  • the position of the head part 11 depends on which of the predetermined positions the foot part 18 is fitted in relative to the support part 14.
  • the head part 11 is eccentric relative to the stem part 14.
  • the head part 11 is eccentric relative to the stem part 13 and also relative to the foot part 18. For each rotational position of the head part 11 there is a predetermined and defined height position for the head part.
  • Preassembling the support part 14 with the foot part 18 and therewith also the stem part 13 and the head part 11 to form a fittable unit makes it easy to attach the latter to the vehicle body 4 in a defined position. Provided that the height position for which it is suitable is known, fitting can be done without requiring any further adjustment.
  • the guide surfaces 26 and 27 of the gripping piece 12 are disposed on the inside of two mutually parallel gripping arms 29 and 30 whose free ends are bent towards one another and are intended for contact with the side of the head part 11 which faces towards the support part 14.
  • the thickness of the head part 11 is such that the head part is held fast, without appreciable play, in the gripping piece 12, thereby enabling the bumper part 5 to be properly secured.
  • the gripping piece 12 and the head part 11 are brought into mutual engagement by drawing one of the open ends of the gripping piece over the head part 11 in a direction perpendicular to the stem part 13. In so doing it is important that the distance between the bent ends of the gripping arms be sufficiently great to provide space for the stem part 13 in the various rotational positions of the head part 11.
  • the bent ends of the gripping arms are bevelled at the ends of the gripping piece to facilitate fitting to the head part 11.
  • Both the retaining piece 10 and the gripping piece 11 may suitably be made of plastic, as also the bumper part 5.
  • Orientating the gripping piece 2 in the manner shown in the drawings makes longitudinal expansion of the bumper part 5 possible horizontally without causing disadvantageous forces in the fastening means 7. This is advantageous in that theplastic in the bumper part 5 usually has a greater longitudinal expansion coefficient than the metal in the vehicle body.
  • the head part 11 is eccentric relative to the stem part 13.
  • the head part may be eccentric relative to the foot part 18.
  • the head part 11 is eccentric relative to the support part 14 so that securing in the various rotational positions makes the head part 11 occupy various height positions relative to the support part 14.
  • the stem part 13 and the support part 14 may be made as one piece, in which case it is necessary for setting the head part in the various rotational positions that the support part also is rotatable. In order in that case to be able to fix the latter in the intended position, there may be a number of suitably placed holes for the projection 17.
  • the support part may be square and cooperate with one or more elevations on the bracket 9.
  • the stem part and the support part may instead be connected permanently together, while the head part is rotatable relative to both these parts. What is important is that the head part 11 can be fitted in a predetermined and defined angular position relative to the vehicle body 4 so that it adopts a defined height position.
  • the bumper part 5 is usually designed such that its edge portions will press against the vehicle body side. To achieve such pressure, the gripping part has by its engagement with the head part to be drawn resiliently in towards the vehicle body, this being ensured by suitable shape of the bumper part 5.
